Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Frances Chung Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Lee Eisenberg I hadn't heard of Mandy Moore until the 2010s. It turned out that she had been famous for quite a while before then. An example was this 2003 mediocrity. It's a typical teen flick. Not the sort of thing that most people over the age of twenty-five will enjoy. I thought that the mom (Allison Janney, now the star of a show called "Mom") was the most interesting character, but she didn't get enough screen time.Basically, I prefer to think of the causes for which Mandy Moore stands (I haven't seen "This Is Us"). She's on the side of social justice. The only other cast members whose names I recognize are Dylan Baker, Peter Gallagher and Nina Foch.
Python Hyena How to Deal (2003): Dir: Clare Kilner / Cast: Mandy Moore, Allison Janney, Trent Ford, Peter Gallagher, Dylan Baker: Regards relationships but it gets pulled in too many directions. Mandy Moore hates romance because she feels that eventually someone will get hurt. Her father is a radio personality about to remarry, and her mother sees her daughters as people to protect. Her sister is engaged to a man from a snobbish wealthy family. Finally there is Trent Ford as an irresponsible yet somewhat sincere classmate who wishes to break through her shield. Familiar setup with poorly placed elements such as grandmother's fall, Moore's car accident, and a contrived ending. Director Clare Kilner maintains no order creating what we have all seen before. Moore is pleasant but travelling predictable grounds that land her exactly where we guessed, with her shield down. Allison Janney is also at the mercy of the straight forward nature of the screenplay. Ford is the boyfriend and he does break through and eventually sleep with Moore. Peter Gallagher as her father is flat, and given the background he could have been more interesting. Dylan Baker is another talented actor wasting screen time when this sh*t is beneath him. Theme marred by misuse of sex, which the film never knows how to deal with. As for the film, I recommend an extreme makeover with a match and lighter fluid. Score: 1 / 10
mystics_passion I had forgotten movies could be this gut-wrenchingly awful. I love Mandy Moore, but one has to wonder if she even bothered to check out the script before she said yes to this drivel. The script is wretched, the editing is blotchy and confusing, and there is nary a character you can genuinely care about here. Everything about this movie is wrong, and in the end, the writing (and the entire feel) is so horrid that not even her screen presence could save it.Why do movies like this ever see the light of day? {Lets see ... Mandy Moore ... 2003 ... hot teen commodity ... lets do it!}Yeah, after sitting through 90 minutes of this, the joke's on me. I cant remember the last time something was this painful to watch. If you're alone in a remote cabin on a frigid night and have nothing else to do but watch this dreck, well -- go outside and take your chances with the bears.
