Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
dougdoepke I guess I'm glad I only glanced at LA's scandalous Free Press years ago. Because with a telephone, I might have ended on somebody's dinner plate. At least, that's according to Mary and Paul's (note the Biblical names) newest fund raising idea. But what do the wacko Blands (another ironic name) care, as long as their American dream of their own business comes true. What a loopy black comedy this is. It's the LA swingers scene, 1980's style, both front and back, clothed and unclothed. And get a load of Bartel who looks like he should be selling life insurance, except he'd bankrupt the business. On the other hand, there's Woronov, a statuesque figure as his accommodating wife, except her clientele includes Nazis, midgets, Mickey Mouse, Lash LaRue, and other assorted pleasure seekers. It's a riveting flick with lots of sex and about as many chuckles. No doubt about it, the Blands pursue their American dream in truly dedicated fashion, at least as long as a trash compactor is available. Meanwhile, my cooking will include everything but a frying pan and maybe a trip to a rural restaurant. Nonetheless, bon appetite Bartel and co. for an inspired cinematic meal.
karydacunha I'm a major movie watcher and go through about 30-50 movies a month. Upon watching so many movies I'm lucky to get 2 or 3 I really like. So when I came across this gem it was truly a diamond in the rough. This is a very low budget film made with money Paul Bartel borrowed from his parents since Hollywood wouldn't touch it. And thank god they didn't! It's perfect. The plot of the movie is basically a couple needs money to close on a house quickly and they decide to attract customers of the sexually devious nature through the newspaper and take advantage of their perverse behavior. But this is just the surface. Beneath this story is a great message about society and the way sex can and does corrupt us all. Eating Raoul is a B-movie comedy masterpiece and I love seeing low budget movies pull off timeless quality films. It ranks as a must see to any B-movie enthusiast and movie lover for that matter.
merklekranz No other black comedy, except perhaps "War of the Roses" comes close to the originality and cleverness of "Eating Raoul". It is totally outrageous, and that is what elevates the film to greatness. Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov play the "Blands" to perfection, and the unbelievable supporting cast is icing on the cake. The movie is so quotable, "Do you realize we just made $500? Yea, just by killing people", it's amazing. Check the numerous quotes on IMDb and you will see what I mean. Each viewing uncovers something new and hilarious about "Eating Raoul", strong testimony for it deserving the title "gold standard" of black comedy. - MERK
fiameza Eating Raul Sexy, fun, wacky, silly flick. You have the normal married couple living their boring lives as a doctor and a wine seller. They are trying to save money for a down payment on their restaurant. When their the husband loses his job and a loan goes default....they think of other creative ways to earn their money. When an encounter from a swinger in the building turns bad and they kill him....they realize how much money they could earn by simply killing people. The normal couple turns very eccentric in their scandal....and start luring people into their homes for sex then killing them. It gets crazier and funnier as the movie progresses......and when Raul enters the scene the film takes off. Could life get any crazier.....the big scene climax is at the swinger party......they make tons of money and kill lots of people. I won't give away the ending cause you must see this film....but guess who really gets taking advantage of in the end? My vote for this film is a 7 out of 10.
