RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
dellamorte-44869 Don't believe the reviews! This film is a stellar piece of cinema. The score predominantly dictates the emotions characters have during scenes. Some bits may meander but the articulation of this film is beyond measure. Despite the ovassional misstep THIS FILM is a modern day classic. The hero's journey conveyed in a truly distinct way!
yokozome You have to admit that when you are watching most comedies there are a number of things that you have to overlook. Be it plot, plausibility, dialog, depth of purpose etc. One in a thousand comedies can be considered high brow art. I think the thing most critics missed in their analysis is that they didn't like Ronnie's many highly socially awkward moments. It makes the critics sense of sensibility go into crisis lock down mode then they hate it all. This film has a great plot (for a comedy), it has really exceptional cinematography, good social commentary. I did like how well they captured the grandiose nature of a type 1 bi-polar person with hilarious grand Hollywood style epic scenes. The cop fight, the skateboarder beat down/drug binge, shooting the flasher etc. also there were subtle things in the movie that were hilarious. Ronnie's detective board, the candid shots of people in the mall, looks that the flasher made during the chase. Normally I hate the moments of heart in comedies. But there were some good ones Especially with the cop in slicked back hair, the drunk mom and Ronnie at the end of the date. The film left me questioning my dreams and possible grandeur by showing how easy the social fabric of society can turn on you based on one conversation or bad relationship with one person. It also showed how many times those socially unacceptable conversations or situations can be irrelevant. I guess the critics can't handle that.
bowmanblue I'm writing this review after a second viewing of Observe and Report. I've always been a fan of Seth Rogan's light-hearted (if adult) humour, so when I first saw this, I was a little let down. The cuddly fat man we can't help but root for has been replaced here by a bi-polar mall security guard who's temper frequently gets him into trouble. It wasn't until the second viewing (when I wasn't expecting some sort of sweet-natured feel-good comedy, like the 40 Year Old Virgin or Knocked Up) that I really appreciated it. I also like my humour dark. And, if you're in the mood for something pretty grisly and taboo-breaking, you may just get something out of this. Basically, if you haven't laughed in the first ten minutes, turn it off and watch something more mainstream. As I mentioned earlier, Rogen plays Ronnie Barnhardt, a mall security guard with delusions of grandeur. He thinks he's the hero, but the audience knows otherwise - which is where most of the humour derives from. He also has bi-polar disorder - a mental condition that means he's quite tolerable one minute (and we, the audience, can also unwittingly think the 'old lovable' Rogen is back. Then, cut to the next scene and he's battering some kid with a skateboard.Observe and Report is laden with poignancy and subtle humour. Basically, only watch if you're in the mood for black comedy and laced with taboos. Nothing is sacred here - expect racism, full frontal male untidy, date rape and plenty of violence and mental illness. If you think you can find the funny side to all that, Observe and Report may just be for you.Besides, it has a wicked soundtrack (if you're into classic rock).http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
FilmBuff1994 Observe and Report is a decent movie with a good storyline and a great comedic cast.It certainly isn't a perfect or even great comedy but it is still very watchable and has plenty of genuinely funny scenes. This movie came out around the same time as Paul Blart: Mall Cop and a lot of people complained about how similar they are, while, they are both about mall cops, this movie is way better and is not very similar to the other movie, this has a lot of black comedy and it dosen't try to make you feel sorry for the character constantly, also Seth Rogen is a much more likable main role than Kevin James is.It certainly isn't a great or outstanding comedy, and nowhere near some of Rogen's best work, but Observe and Report is still quite funny at times, and is worth the worth if you're looking for a quick comedy.A delusional mall cop tries to solve the case of a mystery flasher who stalks his mall and the girl he likesBest Performance: Seth Rogen
