Stoutor It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Numerootno A story that's too fascinating to pass by...
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
rosta_z If it's in ENGLISH without subtitles, it always gets a 5 star rating. That said, that is all I can give this. Terrible movie. Stupid at its core. Even though its in english, I was compelled to give it a 3 star rating.
boju-yanis Being French, I was very curious to see how the Americans adapted "Le Diner de Cons" into an American comedy. If you're a French and want to see this, spare yourself the time. There are a lot of elements that are similar to the original version. Yes, they are similar but yet different in the way the outcomes and twists occur. The reason for which I watched it is because Steve Carrel plays the most important role (the imbecile) and I love this guy. His interpretation of 'Pignon' is interesting but is too cheesy in my taste. In the French Version, Jacques Villeret (who plays the imbecile) strives to be his normal self but keeps doing stupid stuff over and over (unvoluntary!!), which makes the situation(s) worse and worse as the movie unfolds. The thing that may annoy and put off most of comedy viewers with this American remake, is the fact that the 'imbecile' is OVER played. It is very obvious that 'Barry' is too much of a moron to be true which led me to roll my eyes on a few occasions... Barry just looks like his only goal in the movie is to stay in Tim's life and screws everything up.One may safely affirm that Barry is trying to fuck up everything through the whole film contrary to 'Pignon' in the French Film who looks like a decent guy who's trying his best to do the right thing, but screws everything up in spite of his good-hearted self, which makes the self hilarious. The thing I hated the most is the fact that production tried to convey a morale and some cheesy message at the end of the film, which makes no sense to me. The only redeeming quality of this film is the performance of both Steve Carell and Zach Galifianakis (especially the latter who has outdone himself with his performance) I do not know a single French person who doesn't like 'Le diner de cons' . Therefore if you're in the mood for a good/great comedy film, go ahead and watch this French classic with subtitles.
Encho Pramatarov OK. First I want to begin by saying how pathetic everyone here looks when pretending to be a movie critic. Well, let me tell you something, you don't understand anything from movies, and next time you are about to give 1 or 2 stars on a movie like this, consider throwing your DVD player away, because you don't deserve to own one. This was the most entertaining and touching movie I have seen in a while. I love Steve Carell and he did not disappoint as well as the rest of the cast. Why did I give this movie a 10 star rating? Because it delivered what I expected, because it made me and the people around me laugh and because this movie deserves a higher rating. Simple as that, that's all I want to say.Try having fun and stop being miserable with your fake ratings.
theburrus1 Steve Carell is one of my favorite actors, more and more each movie I've seen him in (not in chronological order). Then in looking for another comedy, I saw this one. Then I looked on IMDb and it had a 5.7 rating, slightly low for a film with Carell in it, who by the way is estimated to get $20 million a film these days. Now, I will say all the other characters are fantastic in their roles, but I do not think there was any scene that Carell's character (Barry) was in where he spoke or acted that I could not help but laugh at or just plain crack-up. And that to me is why he is worth what he is paid. Not only is he worth his salary in acting and comedy, but he owned this role like no one else could! And that is brilliant talent. Most likely, if you do watch this film, when it is over you would agree its him that takes this film up two notches from the 5.7 to an 8 stars out of 10.In concluding, the plot and parts of some of the supporting actors' scripts and roles might seem a little quirky or surreal in just reading the synopsis, but actually I found all of those areas of this film entertaining and amusing as well, if you pay attention to subtlety of statements or jokes throughout, but all of this is just the cake. And it is Carell whom, in my opinion, is the icing on that cake!
