Diagonaldi Very well executed
TinsHeadline Touches You
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
erikbrockhoff I think the reason people have such a hard time relating to this movie is that they don't understand that this movie represents the lives of real people. Its such a contrast to how people who aren't in the hood live there lives that it comes off as a joke to them. This movie embodies some of the lifestyles led by gangsters in America. DMX is a questionable role. He is erratic, high strung and was probably high while making the movie. But the scene where he forces himself on to high partner is profoundly deep and all too real in life. Now ask yourself, who could have done it better? Nas is a poet. His closing lines were artful. Method man is just great in any movie. The cinematography and sound track were amazing. Hype Williams really never got the credit he deserved for making such a masterpiece.
ragitbynature I had no clue about the film before I watched it. My hiphop knowledge is pretty poor since snoop's doggy style so I had heard of DMX and Naz but wasn't familiar with their tunes. The opening scene is breath taking. The story line is simple but enthralling, DMX and Naz are comfortable in their roles, as their characters play out the parts. Their business expands, they start treading on toes and ultimately pressure and stress grows between the two protagonists as well as their subsequent relationships with wives and girlfriends. The sound track is wicked, the action is well paced, its violent but also intimidating, really quite raw in some parts which I like. Some of the smaller part characters are quality too, like a local dealer in a Omaha. Its a classic for me.
nazym1 Saw this movie for the first time my senior year of high school and haven't been the same since. Anyone who wants a glimpse into the world of the young, black and powerful should see this movie, not only for the fictional portrayal of gansta thug life but for the superstar cast that pull of one of the most vivid and compelling film plots of all time. The cinematography is absolutely outstanding, and the true beauty of the movies lies in the small details: the look on Kisha's face after her sack session with Tommy; the film Gummo playing in Tommy's house, a reference to the bleak childhoods experienced by the main characters; and I'm pretty sure that one of the performers at the Jamaica party is Sean Paul. Regardless, if you have never seen the movie before, grab a Dutchie, roll a big fat one, get comfy on the couch and just let the story envelop you. Your respect for black culture will multiply to the benefit of yourself and the world.
john smith there's a reggae song that comes on in the movie when Dmx and the Jamaican guy go to an "island" i really need to know its been bugging me for two years. please help i need the name of the song and or the artist if someone would not mind helping me out that would be great but know I'm just writing the ten line minimum of bull crap by the way this movie is average its just that Nas really needs to take some acting courses or something because he was horrible his wife can use the help too because her acting was horrible as well talking to someone requires emotion, she was just reading off of a script. since I only have eight and a half lines I have to bull crap this last line, this really grinds my gears.
