KnotMissPriceless Why so much hype?
Crwthod A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
cinemajesty Movie Review: "Brooklyn's Finest" (2009)Produced and directed with the best intentions by director Antoine Fuqua to create a masterful hyper-realistic crime-thriller including three strong leading men Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle and Richard Gere and a special appearance by Wesley Snipes as prison-released character of Caz; nevertheless this movie premiering on January 16th 2009 at Sundance Film Festival and then parked for another year in some non-realized distribution deal-in-the-making ambience with picture-neglecting deep-industry-connected producers John Thompson and Basil Iwanyk, who hardly convinced director Antoine Fuqua to deliver empathetic meaning within a overly-structured storyline of three cops in the service for more or less in favors for the New York Police Force, when stark realities hit in feminine-state-of-existence-denying scenes of violence with gun, fist and up talking mouths that this well-crafted but utterly cold crime-thriller in its unbalanced 125-Minute-Editorial by cutter Barbara Tulliver vanishes from the spectre's mind as soon as curtains roll.© 2018 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)
Adam Peters (52%) This feels to me very much like a more crime related version of 2004's love or hate best film winner "Crash", with its similar themes surrounding both the good and bad things all people are actually capable and willing to do. On a plus side it's nice to see Wesley Snipes in a solid production playing a real character, and he's actually quite good here. So too is the cast in general which has bags of experience, star power and talent. On the down side though this overall is a touch too ploddingly slow and about 20 mins or so too long, but the interconnecting ending is worth the wait even if it is a little too neat and contrived to be necessarily all that believable.
Leofwine_draca Another 'corrupt cop' thriller, of which there are so many these days. This one's directed by Antoine Fuqua, who made TRAINING DAY with Denzel Washington, so he has some experience in the genre.BROOKLYN'S FINEST, while telling a complex and inventive story, never grabbed me the way it should have done. It may be because the production is just too miserable for its own good. The whole film takes place in darkness and even in the daylight scenes, the faces of the actors are shadowed. The relentlessly downbeat script and frequent moments of harsh violence add to the overall experience, which is depressing. The tropes and themes that all been explored many times previously and, while the film certainly keeps you watching, I didn't come away from it feeling awed or wowed in the same way I did watching STREET KINGS.Still, the acting is strong, especially from Richard Gere who plays a VERY different character from those in his rom-coms. It's a real surprise to see him taking part in scenes involving a prostitute which are a far cry from the glossy fantasy of PRETTY WOMAN. Ethan Hawke, one of the most haggard-looking actors on the planet, fits his hangdog role like a glove, and only the overrated Don Cheadle proves a weak point. Watch out for Wesley Snipes in a decent cameo, though.
xxxmetal I watched this and "Shooter" recently. Both are junk. Don't waste your time with either. At some point, excellent actors and actresses are going to realize that they need to stay away from Fuqua projects. Fuqua and M.Knight Shyamalan should start a club titled, "What The Heck Happened To Us, We Came Out Of The Box On Fire, And Now Make Terrible Movies."What happened to these guys? Did both peak way too early, did both get way too lucky at the start? Producers - please stop giving these guys projects.
