Micitype Pretty Good
Pluskylang Great Film overall
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
jawedqureshi-36052 Very dumb story, cast was good but bad script, not good enough comedy for comedy genre movie.
saintgeneveive This was not that bad of a movie. I liked that not all the characters were hypersexual and still had some innocence about them. I thought that having the main character getting ready to go to Harvard was a little overkill (just COLLEGE would have been enough), but then I read that writer Colin Jost went to Harvard and also grew up on Staten Island, so I presume this is an autobiographical hyperbole of his experience. His actual brother plays his police partner in the movie. I enjoyed seeing Fred Armison, Cecily Strong, Jim Gaffigan and some other familiar faces. The little kids added some sweetness. I personally don't relate to the weed jokes, but alcohol, yes. Mike O'Brien's character is reminiscent of Mr. Rooney in Ferris Buehler's Day Off. Will Forte also makes a memorable appearance.
eboogyman2 First of all, if you go into this movie expecting it to be an episode of Jersey Shore, you will be disappointed. Even though Staten Island has a reputation of meat heads fist pumping everywhere, it's not an accurate representation of Staten Island. I applaud the creators of this movie who finally show Staten Island in the correct light. The stereotypes of this NYC borough do exist in this movie but are in the outer fringes of the storyline, just as they are in the actual Staten Island. That being said, the movie is enjoyable, but really not a memorable coming of age comedy. The story provides noting really new, and actually aside from Gina Gershon and Vincent Pastores' stereotypical Italian suburban characters. This story could have taken place in any middle class neighborhood across the United states.Again, the creators should be applauded for showing Staten Island in its true form. If you like coming of age stories, there's enough here to make it enjoyable. It's not overly funny or dramatic and the script isn't strong, but you will probably watch it and move on with your life. If you saw "the way way back" you will notice huge contrasts between a strong showing as that one is and a mediocre entry like this one.
Paul Wycherley Not knowing anything about this film or evan hearing about it when i was asked to review this, as you could guess i was not optermistic......but happy to say i was wrong as this film was absolutely amazing! This film has everything you could ask for great one liners funny moments great story of a bunch of friends and there journey to take the next step. It has the American pie feel because they just want to get laid and throw a party but it stands alone in the way they go about it, all of them are life guards in a swimming club and working for a dumb annoying boss who wants to wreck there summer party plans to which they must come up with ways to beat him. The creepy guy on the train from euro trip is the maintenance worker who in this film is a cross between inspector clouseau and johnny knoxville from jackass is perfect. This has the ability to become a cult classic a great funny heart warming story that is a must watch
