Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Steineded How sad is this?
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
jttaa I like a lot of the "old school" BBC/ITV series, but I've noticed that their more recent period dramas are trying to cater too hard to the US crowd. This is disappointing, because I always enjoyed shows from the UK because the characters always seemed more realistic and relatable, from the aristocrats to the scullery maids. Some of the stereotypes portrayed in this series are the exact reason I disliked Downton Abbey-- They seem to have too many goofy Hallmark-character traits... the dark brooding alpha male who strays with the hired help yet is always forgiven, the blue eyed blond virgin sexpot ubergirl, the spinster, the fallen whore woman with child... Denise seems like an OK innocent character at first, but then I realize that she's unwittingly and unforgivably throwing all of her female co-workers under the bus at one point or the other with a big smile on her face. Blondie gets coddled like the favorite daughter of the store, whole the stereotypical brunette "whore" gets slighted, and the elderly matron manager is made to look like a fool, and it makes me cringe. Morey seems downright unlikable, although I get the impression that he's supposed to be one of the "good guys". I want to tell the monied heiress who chased him, "Run AWAY! He just wants your money while he bonks the shop girls!" I can't give it no stars, since I usually enjoy watching anything based on historical events.
selffamily I finished reading the book "the ladies paradise" not long ago and a friend and I were discussing it, and found a TV version on Ebay. Well of course it's nothing like the book, except it's an innovative department store in a large city - can't actually work out where it's supposed to be as everyone seems to be from Northern areas, if not Scotland - and the lead girl is called Denise. After that, the story changes radically and becomes, dare I say it, nearly as trite as Downton. Not having finished watching season one, I can only wait and see, but while the theme of the story is similar (no Miss Audrey in the book, with or without hot flushes) I would like to have seen a French version, as I don't think they would have dumbed down the story as much. I am enjoying the series so something is working. What happened to the brilliant series that the BBC used to produce?
Monique Bell First of all, I am torn. In the beginning I couldn't stand Katherine, but, in the second season, I wanted Katherine and John to get back together. I say this because I realize that Denise is an air headed, selfish, little girl. She wants John's shop more than she loves him. I truly believe that Katherine is best for him. Furthermore, I MUST say that, as a fan of Downton Abbey, I've come to love this show so much more. I feel that there's so much more complexity to this story. Sucky part is that this show is over :( As much as the second season is stressing me out because of Denise's innocuous behavior, I wish I could have more and more of this show. RIVOTING!!!!
aditikadambi What stupid female on earth would fall for a man when she was doing so well in her uncle's business? Episode 7 , Denice proudly states "she wants to make a mark for herself rather than joining The paradise" and next you know she runs blindly into her old employer seeking her position back just because her uncle said so.I mean this is a shitty show. Why couldn't the writer think for a second before falling for those stupid TRP ratings ? Why cant shows portray woman stronger not just business aspect but love as well. Why do they get weak in their knees ?The characters are rather irritating and confusing.Somewhere i feel they were trying to copy Downtown Abbey !. But they failed.
