AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Adeel Hail Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
rjaywallace1 The cast isn't bad, but the writing is nothing but death, suicide and more death. Stopped watching about 20% of the way thru Episode 3 - could not stomach it any more. The opportunities for incredible cinematography are there. Scotland can be damp, but it's classically stunning. The Director, however, has chosen to make viewing as dreary as the excruciatingly slow-paced storyline. The Scottish National Chamber of Commerce failed you by not banning this movie. Take action yourself, and don't bother to watch.
guyzradio We've all watched a mystery where you suspect, or just know, they've purposely been throwing you one red herring after another until they spill the beans and you feel "taken." "One of Us," aka "Retribution," skillfully moves from being a show you THOUGHT was about finding the murderer of a newlywed couple, to how the families of the victims deal with the appearance of the killer on their doorsteps. Now dead at the hands of an unrevealed family member, the killer remains an element in the story, although overshadowed by the progressive revelation of complex and not altogether wholesome inter- and intra-family relationships. We see trust erode as various family members suspect one or another of the crime, and everyone seems to have a skeleton or two in the closet. Damaged people, all, and that includes the police. Throughout, the view is never blatantly mislead to conclude who the guilty party is, instead sharing in the confusion of the cops who nonetheless methodically unravel both murders. I have enjoyed John Lynch since seeing him in "The Fall," and I was especially taken by his performance in the last few minutes of Retribution. It's great British drama. Stay with it and pay attention. You will not be disappointed, and you'll think about it a few times afterward.
rob-stanley 1. First review ever. 2. I picked this up seriously late. 3. What what what. I shamelessly consume TV series and particularly crime / drama. So I have some experience. This was special. Really special. Short and effective. It was brutal with its honesty. Bless the Scottish accents for some edge. Layered darkness. You need to watch and enjoy. Script and acting. Photography. All top notch. Lovely find on Netflix.
clintstevens How refreshing to watch a miniseries that doesn't drag on for 20 episodes and doesn't wallow in foul language and nudity. My only complaint is the drug subplot was unnecessary and added nothing to the story, so I have deducted a star. Other than that, it's absolutely worth watching!
