Reviews

Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
GazerRise Fantastic!
Tayyab Torres Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
S.R. Dipaling I watched this show pretty faithfully for about six of the nine or ten seasons it was on the air. I suppose exhaustion of the show's tried and true chestnuts(i.e. Drew's constant war with office Troll-lover and cosmetics hound Mimi, the fact that he hates his job, that he's walked on perpetually, that he never can quite get any of his side projects to take off,his inability to keep a relationship, etc.) would be the main reason why I fell "out of love" with this show. By the seventh year mark of the show, the elements of the show, while still funny, seemed to ring stale to me. Still, when this show was rolling along through the halcyon years,it was arguably one of the most inspired and raucous comedy that ran through network television.Be-spectacled,laid-back everyman Drew Carey plays sort of a distaff version of himself:instead of having the life of a successful stand-up comic,he's back in his hometown of Cleveland working a thankless middle management job for the Winfred-Louder Mall company. He has the support(for whatever that's worth)of his friends KAte(Christa Miller, comfortable being "one of the guys"),Lewis(Ryan Stiles, brilliant!)and Oswald(the always malleable Diedrich Bader),and day-to-week survival in his job consists of,among other things, navigating his way around adversarial work peers such as his bosses(Kevin Pollack in season one, future TV talk show host Craig Ferguson for the rest of the run) and some co-workers(primarily Ian Gomez and overly made up Kathy Kinney, never dull as aforementioned Mimi).Of course, this being a sitcom, the usual conventions(i.e. simple plot construct,laugh-track,light,silly and raunchy subject matter, etc.)are employed, but the creators made efforts to ratchet it up enough to keep it interesting from season to season, show to show. Whether it was altering the opening theme title credit sequence(season 1:Drew's ukulele rendition of "Moon Over Cleveland",season 2 and 3's surreal,60s-like music-and-dance routine set to "Five o'clock world";seasons 4,5 and 6's energized rock intro of all the characters running through a rendition of Ian Hunter's "Cleveland Rocks")or various ways of playing with the plot devices(a couple of examples that come to mind:the annual "Find What's Wrong with the show" episode,or the episode where Drew's romantic rivalry over a nice girl with his erstwhile friends is being commented on by sports commentators,a la "Monday Night Football"),this show exercised to its full extent all the ways they could tinker with the format given.I may yet try can catch the eps from the latter seasons,as it seems like they were probably undersold and quietly shelved in favor of other ABC shows coming up the pike around that time(read about 2002 to 2004),just to see if maybe my original prejudices of the show's creative turns still agree with me. Still a fun show while it lasted, and because of it,suddenly Cleveland sounds good to me. Dare I say it,I think it may, indeed, rock.
DKosty123 It is not easy to do with real people (cartoons do it better) but this show creates characters that are well defined but have no class. Drew Carey is painted as a real life Dilbert (the cartoon) type except even less intelligent than the cartoon character. Then he has two male friends that are from the gates of someplace. They are usually intelligent enough to add 2 plus 2 & get 3, but are rarely smarter than the bedpost at the end of the bed. Then there is Mimi. She is a classic type of woman like Phyllis Diller but only more garish & less of a sense of humor. Mimi sets a new television & perhaps womanhood low for make-up. He taste is clothes is so loud that when she leaves a room, everyone there is like stunned for at least 10 minutes.Mr. Wick was so funny on this show that he now has his own talk show. He is very over-stated & confused, & still is even now on his talk show. Still, he is a lot of bloody likely fun here. Ryan Stiles is fantastic and often in his own world on this show. Dietrich Bader is great too & plays off Stiles & everyone very well.Actually, because of Mimi, all the other females on this show look really hot. What is amazing is that these people actually accomplish goals in spite of the fact none of them really know where they are going. The later seasons have some fancy special effects. The theme song morphs a few times until it settles in on Cleveland Rocks & then morphs again. I liked the Five O'Clock world theme best. The later shows have the best comedy timing. Carey did some fine writing for this show he helped create.Over all, this show is almost always very funny, & never can be taken seriously. Like Buzz Beer, Mission Accomplished.
udkyle I was a big fan of the show when it was on, and I've been watching a lot of the episodes again in syndication. Drew Carey was always a funny stand up. The cast was great...Ryan Stiles and Diedrich Baker are two very underrated guys in playing comedy, and Craig Ferguson was always fun to watch.Maybe the show ran its course and it was smart for Drew to close it out on a high note, and wrap the series up nicely with a final episode, but I can't help but think that ABC killed this show. The show was a staple of the network for so many years, and it finally began to slip in the ratings a little and ABC got worried to quickly and juggled it around to a bunch of different time slots. Add that with the reality TV craze, and a show like the Drew Carey Show which I think cost quite a bit to produce became obsolete very quickly. That's a nice thank you after the show and the show's main actor did a lot to help the network.A lot of people peg Christa Miller leaving the show as the down turn. I don't think so. Cynthia Watros was did a decent job for having to come in 7 years into a series and take over the lead actress role. The series was still funny and could have been had ABC left it alone.Sadly, the final season was run completely out of order with large gaps in between air time which made it nearly impossible to keep track of.Hopefully, they'll release it on DVD to give this very underrated and funny show a proper sendoff.
devil_dude140 Do not get me wrong, I still absolutely love the Drew Carey show, but the new episodes suck. It is a good thing this show is going off the air, at least it goes out with dignity. The show used to be very funny, until Kelly comes into the show. Lets just call Kelly, the "Malaria" virus. But let us go onto the good things about the drew carey show. Oswald and Lewis, pure genius characters... one of my favorite characters on any show! Drew (in the early season) used to be hilarious, I love it when him and Mimi fight! As for Mimi, her dresses are just crazy, love the dresses, especially the wedding gown. I don't care much for Kate, but as for Steve, he used to be really funny when he was a cross-dresser. It is too bad that this show has gone to the dump, I would've liked it if the show had kept going like it was before 2002. Too bad... Season Ratings: 1- 2.5/5, 2- 3.5/5, 3- 3/5, 4- 4/5, 5- 5/5, 6- 4/5, 7- 2.5/5, 8- 2/5, 9- 1.5,Average Rating: 3.05 My Rating: 2.5Last Comments: Jeez this show has really gone downhill, take it away!
