Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
rickske belsack Reading previous reviews makes me very sad about the state of the average American audience's capacity to understand anything but the most obvious predictable action plot. This is why Hollywood has to dumb down to the most basic plots and expected action sequences, instead of well-written creative fantasies like this about death (spoiler alert: there goes 98% of the U.S. audience). Great film; ashamed the vast majority of the American audience can't understand the basic story, which my 10, 12, and 14 year old kids had no trouble following, guessing at the outcome, and loving. This is a great film for teens and pre-teens to watch who are dealing with, or who have dealt with the death of a grandparent in a very imaginative way that will make them feel better.
purplepuff I actually watched this movie by accident, but I loved it! Its about a boy who, after an accident, goes to a world where all people who are between life and death stay, until they are ready to take a chance and try to go back to the real world. In this world he meets his grandfather, who is sick with Alzheimer's, and a girl named Melanie, who arrived at this world in the winter, so even though its summer, for her its always winter. Melanie shows Ryan (the boy) the dust factory. SHe shows him that the only way back to the real world is to jump of a big height. If you make it to the other side, you die. If you fall, you go back healthy. After a touching story in that world, Ryan's grandfather decides to take the leap, and makes it. The Ryan takes the leap, and doesn't make it. When Ryan arrives at the real world, his neighbors come along with a girl called Melanie, who had a tumor (or something g in her brain) Of course Ryan doesn't remember her, but they fall in love all over again!:)
sewrightiam I just picked up this movie off the shelf because the title was interesting. I had never heard of it before. So I didn't know what to expect. It was really a surprise to find that it was good. We enjoyed it very much. The two main characters were very likable. I wish that they had gone into a little more detail of the circumstances of why they were at the factory but overall a good story about learning to deal with your fears and moving on with your life.In this world of the big movies with lots of action, drama, sex, it was very sweet. Great family movie with lots to discuss after it is over. Give it a try.
Gondor114 SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!"The Dust Factory", a movie written and directed by Eric Small, is a text book example of why most independent films remain independent: they are poor movies. The whole plot of this story is lacking. Two kids (Ryan Kelley & Hayden Panettiere) get trapped in some type of purgatory. However, this paradise hell, as you could call it, happens in the middle of their life!? Even the acting can't save this movie. Hayden Panettiere, the girl who braved it in the classic movie, "Remember the Titans", and the cute, "Raising Helen", is just seen dancing by herself unstop of a lake for half of the entire movie. Ryan Kelley, though brilliant in his own scenes, has no chemistry whatsoever with Ms. Panettiere. Then comes the grandpa of the male role: he is suppose the wise figure of the movie but all he does is walk into closets. However, the worst character in the book, is the villain: the evil circus guy who owns the Dust Factory. He is purely laughable! What are the good things in the movie? Nice scenery, great cinematography & the fact I only had to see this movie only once!
