Cleveronix A different way of telling a story
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
TheLittleSongbird What drew me into seeing 'War Pigs' in the first place? The reasonably likeable cast on paper, a premise that had potential to work, that it was part of a genre that has had a fair share of great films and that it was another film that popped up in my recommended for you section. Was also a bit apprehensive, with a less than favourable rating and generally reviews that were lukewarm at best and most being very negative.Really do try to not heavily reliant on critical opinion and always make an effort to be open-minded and think for myself. Have been known to go against general consensus, finding praised films not that good (while not considering them necessarily bad films) or panned films that bad, though generally we're on the same page. Which is the case for 'War Pigs'. Wanted to like it but when watching it it was very difficult to find anything about it. Basically it was a mess all round.Only one thing is not done amateurishly, and that is the photography that has numerous moments where it ranges from okay to quite good. It is a shame that it was hard to appreciate it properly with such drab lighting, sloppy editing, afterthought-like effects and inaccurate costumes and attention to detail that shows a complete lack of research. The acting is also poor, with Luke Goss faring the least badly. Dolph Lundgren can be watchable but he looks tired and goes through the motion. On the other side of the acting spectrum, the film manages to get the worst out of a very hammy Mickey Rourke. Their clichéd characters that are either bland, annoying or both with behaviours that are irritating or illogical do them no favours.Likewise, they can't do anything with such a flabby, stilted and far too talk-heavy script. The story doesn't compel at all and has no tension, suspense or excitement whatsoever, emotion and urgency is non-existent also. The action scenes are too few, are poorly choreographed and filmed and have nothing to them. The direction shows no competence and the sound is often far too loud.Summing up, terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox
adonis98-743-186503 A rag tag unit of misfits known as the War Pigs must go behind enemy lines to exterminate Nazis by any means necessary. With a film with this kind of cast and straight to dvd? I was for sure not expecting Saving Private Ryan or something but unfortunately i wasn't expecting anything that awful either. The film takes place in 1944 right? But it hardly looks like 44 to be honest it actually looks like people doing a parody of a war movie. The acting wasn't anything great either and Mickey Rourke? I have no idea what the heck he was really doing in here. (0/10)
JohnAU1965 Many reviews of this movie quite correctly point out clichéd characters & dialog and laughable 'action' sequences. These are quite true. Many also point out some degree of authenticity with equipment and this is also true to a point with the exception of a couple of fairly glaring errors. The dreaded V3 this rag tag band are to find isn't a V-3 in the first instance. It's a normal (if gargantuan) German rail gun. Some reviewers have pointed this out, but then wax long & lyrical over the fact that it isn't a fixed weapon. The actual V3 was a fixed weapon, dug into a hillside but from a visual look would have been rather boring. The use of the German vehicles is both welcome and grating. The half-track is quite authentic (probably one of the Czech rebuilds) as is the PzKpfw III. Two problems arise here. The German troops milling around wear SS camouflage and other accoutrements, the half- track on the other hand has a Wehrmacht licence plate. Possible, but improbable. The second issue is the Panzer III. We're told the movie is set in 1944 and the SS troops are, in some instances, armed with StG 44 assault rifles applicable to the timeframe. Why then are these elite troops saddled with an old Panzer? Produced in 1942/3, the Ausf M variant was most definitely a second line vehicle by this time and hardly the equipment of an SS unit.Overall, one is reminded of the poorly made war movies of the 70s and 80s. Clichéd dialog, cookie-cutter characters and laughable scenarios.Goss and Lundgren play good roles, some of their squad are likable types, although Noah Sagan's character Sgt Chambers would, I suspect, have been spending the war in Leavenworth rather than the front lines, given his complete lack of even the most basic military courtesy. How this whining know-it-all made it through basic, let alone achieve Sergeant is quite beyond me.Mickey Rourke's 'character' (rather apt really) is a complete joke. Allegedly a colonel with WWI service, his personalised take on the concept is an insult to any officer rank and makes Duvall's character in Apocalypse Now seem like a graduate of West Point. As others have pointed out, if this laughable buffoon would have rolled into an officers' briefing with other ranks of his own level or above, he would more than likely be laughed out the door.In closing, the ghost of Michael Dudikoff is alive and well.
brandonleeeberhart Like sands in an hourglass we have the sands of a desert, except there is no desert, or sand or glasses, except for glasses of water in this film, which is about Dolph Lundgren's continued cinematic dominization of the cinema industry Brazil-wide.Once again, lo, these many films of Dolph, he is a man, and other men die because of him. The big twist this time, however, is that everyone watching this film in the safe comfort of their cars or boats or houses or rooms in a house - and I mean everyone - will lose their remote at one point in the movie (00:57:34) Guaranteed. It's spooky. That's when I lost mine, and then I rewound it on the tape that i watched it on that totally exists cause I bought it, and BOOM, lost it again, almost as though it had never existed in the first place. So, Dolph Lundgren, he's an army guy in this one.1942/1915
