Alicia I love this movie so much
LouHomey From my favorite movies..
Salubfoto It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
bombersflyup The Day of the Triffids is a dull yet ludicrous creature/feature film. The triffids are so silly that it's impossible to take it seriously. They look terrible and move so slow and then somehow disappear quickly out of sight. I also could not get past the husband Tom in the lighthouse wanting to drink away the rest of his life, when he has the lovely Janette Scott by his side. That is an absurd notion, drinking is suppose to be a substitute, why drink when he has everything? Aargh! ... None of the acting really stood out, the dialogue weak, blind people stumbling around and slow silly moving plants, all in all a pretty dull film.
hughhemington Over my lifetime I've probably watched this movie a dozen times. With a pretty far-fetched premise, and no real "stars", it tells a surprisingly cohesive and convincing story, with excellent pacing and editing. And the special effects are very good given the modest budget. The viewer is carried along with a cast performing far above their pay-grade, with varied scenery and nice tight sub-plots. I expect to see it another dozen times in the future, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it every time. This movie is certainly unfairly under-rated.
Des Browning Utter, utter rubbish. Bears scant relationship to the excellent scifi novel it was based on. Amazed it got a few good reviews on here - John Wyndham must have been shocked at its poor treatment, cheap effects and complete departure from his book. Should be consigned to the dustbin of dreadful adaptations.
jvance-566-20403 There are times when a movie depiction of a book really works but in those cases the written version is typically mediocre. When the book is superb even the best directors have a hard time making the translation.Daphne Du Maurier's "The Birds" and Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting" received excellent treatment by Hitchcock and Wise. But though very well done they didn't quite get there. This adaptation of John Wyndham's extraordinary work was pretty far off the mark. The most glaring oddity is the telling of 2 simultaneous but completely unconnected story lines. I'm not quite sure why this was done but it's distracting. The actors all try hard but the poor special effects and uninspiring dialog don't give them much to work with.I still break this out and watch it from time to time but it's mainly to reminisce about innocent young minds and Saturday matinees. If you want a real treat, read the book.
