Just what I expected
Bea Swanson
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Aiden Melton
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

The setup: Dimwitted Martians drop into a little Illinois town on the day that the local radio station happens to rebroadcast Orson Welles 1938 "War Of The Worlds".The verdict: About as funny as a bad case of syphilis. Some overgrown clowns trying to be silly. I don't know why I watch the movies I do, because I always waste at least three hours a week watching crappy movies. I wasn't really sure if I'd like the movie -- and I certainly did not. Unfortunately, after this movie there were several other movies that tried to capitalize on its success. My final rating stands at 7 out of 10.

I guess people are looking for I don't know what in a movie. The rating for this movie is way too low. This movie is outstandingly funny. The real stars are the alien constructs. The dialog is great and the special effects are pretty good. I love the humorous comments that the aliens make about the enforcer drones and the Naziesque secret police. The towns people are taken aback when they realize that there are aliens among them. The old man and his dog are well rewarded for their efforts when the ship finally manages to lift off. The ship leaves a nutrient rich deposit behind that saves the old man's farm from foreclosure.

Being from a small town in Illinois myself, I can instantly relate to this movie. Considering the era it was made in, the townsfolk look uncomfortably like a lot of people I grew up with. Yes the plot is so-so. And yes, the Acting is not going to get nominated for an Oscar anytime soon. But that isn't the point. The point is to suspend reality and just have FUN. And this movie has Fun aplenty. From the greedy, uncaring banker to the well meaning, but dimwitted deputy, this movie was made to poke fun at the SciFi genre and small town living at it's best. Who can't smile at the sight of the Enforcer Drone or the Vern Droid? and I LOVED the FarmZoid. Wish I had one when I was growing up. Overall, considering the technology they had available at the time, this is a pleasant romp into one's childhood, when you could sit back on a Saturday afternoon, Popcorn in hand, and laugh at the foibles of small town living. This is a movie I would watch again and again, if for no other reason than to poke fun at myself and my small town ways.

I thought this would be another goofball ET ripoff (like the awful "Nookie"), but it is, instead is light-heartedly enthusiastic, with clever dialog, and a generally don't-take-ourselves-too-seriously attitude that makes this a great late-night (or late-saturday-afternoon) entertainment. Give it a watch! "That's it! Take me to a Government Lab, and cut me into wafer thin sections."
