Micitype Pretty Good
Console best movie i've ever seen.
Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
tles7 What can I say, if you watch it, you feel at times as though you are witnessing a "look what we can do with CGI" demo. At other times, you feel like you are in a virtual reality game or maybe a really high-end room in the Planeterium. None of it makes sense. None of it is believable in any way. It tries hard to be "deep" but it often borders on goofy.
Art Vandelay This movie is so bad it would take me the rest of my life to enumerate its failures. Just off the top of my head: Special effects that would get laughed out of the theatre even before Star Wars in 1976, Set design that includes Don Cheadle's Mars greenhouse wrapped in orange Glad bags that I use to throw away my leaves and grass clippings in the fall. Dialogue written by the proverbial thousand monkeys on a 3-day coke and Jack bender. Acting so far beneath the talents of the cast I bet each of them rates this as their worst movie. Actors who smile at each other like they are playing footsie just off- screen. How did Cheadle get so nicely cleaned up? Did the rescue crew bring a Gillette Mach 3 with them? Why is the token female still wearing her space suit after Sinise is down to his T-shirt? Did she forget to pack a change of clothes? And why is the other dude still wearing his helmet? This is easily one of the worst sci-fi movies I have ever seen. Not Planet 9 bad, but Ed Wood didn't have $100 million when he made that turkey. Movie financiers would have been better off taking their money and shooting it into space. For $100 million I could have shot a better movie on my iPhone and had $99 million left over for hookers and blow.
Reidal80 I just can't believe this masterpiece got 5.6 and bad movies like Alien covenant got 6.9, just hope in time audience will realize the beautiful movie Brian did.I think that people got frustrated after the first act and then realize that this wasn't a horror science fiction film and actually a well mature drama, also read in others reviews the similarities with 2001 Space odyssey, and yes it has, but I love it, like a homage, but better effects of course...This movie is what I expected from a Brian de Palma science fiction attempt, with all this great characters, human, sensible .The scene of the mini meteorite disaster its super tense, clever and fresh...that last hole missing in the fuel pipe that cause the explosion ,the music pulsating.. Is just amazing, the death of Tim Robbins uncut and touching and the score wow! Ernio M did a fine job, it catches the sadness but also the sense of adventure and yes, this film is for people who love space, aliens and visit others galaxies, the spirit of movies like Contact or Interstellar. Also is about friendship and love, a beacon of life, a genuine vote for human kind , guess the first from the dark career of De Palma. Like Maggie and Jim say in the movie : to reach a new world and just stare at the next one...Thanks De Palma for this cinematic experience, Im with Jim in his outer space journey.
Steven Freekin I'm a huge fan of Brian DePalma movies and I've put off watching Mission to Mars for years and finally last night i viewed it. WOW...what a waste of time. I can't believe they spend over a hundred million dollars to finance and distribute this pile of crap. No wonder it failed miserably. In the theatrical trailer for this film, they put "A Brian DePalma Film," which is followed by "director of Mission Impossible." So therefore i was expecting great suspense, on the edge of your seat thrills, and great action similar to Mission Impossible but on A MISSION TO MARS.The film does have moments of DePalma's genius with suspense and tension along with his uncut takes signatures shots however, the characters are flat and almost one dimensional. It was hard to relate to any of them and so my viewing experience was just about watching for the sake of watching rather than being immersed in the film. Most of the visual effects in the film are great however, The Martian looked like an unfinished 1990s carton animatic. Perhaps the most annoying part of this film is its score, which i found dated, boring, distracting, and stupid. I'm not a fan of this composer at all. His music sound like left over crap from The Thing score that wasn't used in that film as well. This composer also killed another Brian DePalma film that i thought was great, The Untouchables. In that particular film the score made the movie sound like a live action cartoon of Ben and Jerry.
