Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
D Rahul Raj Jsd It's Oct 31st, Halloween (2016) and my first feature on this special day was Lucky McKee's May, starring The Iconic Angela Bettis, who is mesmerizing with her performance. Also featuring Jeremy Sisto, Anna Faris, Bret Roberts, James Duval, Jesse Hlubik and Kevin Gage. It's a very powerful movie with an emotional vibe to it that has realism about what's going on with some people's lives in this world. The part about May being alone and people find her being weird, which actually does have a strong connection with my life for my looks and my interest in horror films and stuff, which most people around me find strange. This is definitely a top favorite movie of mine which I have seen so many times, it's just so beautiful and touching the way it's made, and it connects with my heart every time I see it.
tthomaslew76-234-269609 I have to say, I'm not gonna write a description of the movie or anything like that. If you've gotten this far, you already know about all that or you can read another review. But what I will say is this, I was presently SURPRISED! Most horror flicks have NO developed plots. Or the story is half-assed and too unrealistic. And the acting is usually sub-par with NO character development. Or the director gets too interested in pleasing lovers of gore and shocking the audience. Or camera work and style production takes too much of a role instead of fortified substance."May", does NOT suffer from any of those prototypical flaws that behoove horror/gore films. The young actress who plays her has depth in emotion, facial expression and even control of her voice. I CARED about her character and to me, that's one of the BASIC fundamentals in making ANY kind of decent movie!I will say this, it's not perfect, but it is a VERY effective character study of the extremes people will go to to battle loneliness and how untreated social dysfunction can morph into full blown psychosis!I would consider this a GREAT film considering it's genre. And coming from a black dude who never watches this type stuff that's saying something! I give it an 8 out of 10. Enjoy!
Poptart_Psycho Well what can I say, I was more than impressed with Lucky McKee,s movie. A horror with a mix of thriller and gore with brilliant character insight. In my opinion I think the movie poses the question was May always a bit crazy and the rejection pushed her over the edge or was she sane but pushed over by the lack of affection? The tagline is 'If you cant make friends build them' which is used throughout them.At the start of the film we learn about May, as a child she was diagnosed with a lazy eye much to her over bearing mothers disappointment who wanted a 'perfect child' she was a loner who had no friends. Her mother gave her a china doll named Susie who she adored and has kept forever. Nothing to say she was dangerous just a little different. May is a veterinary assistant at the local animal hospital which she enjoys. We start to see May finding attraction in handsome Adam, a mechanic nearby like May he seems quite quiet and reserved. Adam also makes films on the side. The couple start to get closer by sharing cigarettes and going for lunch. After showing May one of his movies 'Jack and Jill' based on cannibalism May takes it to literally, mocking her kissing techniques he doesn't want to date May anymore making her feel lonely...Along came Polly... One of Mays colleagues at work is flirtatious lesbian Polly who has a somewhat kind of attraction over May. Always seeming to flirt around may, after the Adam incident May is feeling lonely so seeks comfort in the woman. The pair have a brief dating relationship until one day May comes knocking to see Polly has a new girl called Ambrosia. Again May is feeling more rejected and close to the final straw...The last nail in the coffin... Being rejected by all her 'friends' May decides to volunteer at a day care centre for blind children. Meeting ironically a loner girl who she helps bring into the group. One day she decides to bring in Susie her china doll in a glass case. Unintentionally the blind children get excited and accidentally break the doll sending May into despair.Full blown psycho... Sadly at this point Mays mental state darkens, rejected by everyone shes got close to and the breaking of beloved Susie its gone to far. Now she really has taking her mother words and the movies tagline too far, feeling the only way she can have the perfect friend by having body parts of all those closest to her. This movie is dark and humorous at times and highlights issues we as society ignore.
johnhempel I'm giving this movie a 10 to bring up the average, as well as to say that it is a "10" for the kind of movie it is. Maybe the critics just don't like Lucky McKee. May is a Horror/Comedy. Angela Bettis and Jeremy Sisto both do a perfect job bringing there characters persona's out in the film. The direction by Lucky McKee is wonderfully refreshing, as is the movie itself. If I was editor and chief of the papers whose critics panned this movie they would all be out of a job! May is a unique kind of movie that brings comedy and horror together, and that is not an easy task. It may not be a movie for everyone, but as a movie critic one must be able to recognize talent. There are many movies with high ratings and many fans that are just not my thing, but they are still good movies. I've seen Angela Bettis in a few movies, and in my opinion she is a very talented actor. When a movie makes me laugh out loud as much as May did, it will have a special place in my library.
