Steineded How sad is this?
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
megaxtreme Stephen dorff is a totally underrated and excellent actor who deserves excellent roles. This thing is very mediocre and just ism't super great. There's another movie with almost the same story line that came out sometime in the teens like 2016 maybe...it totally sucks. There are so many ultra lame movies out there on all ends of the spectrum and no-talent actors like chris pratt that the state of movie making sucks. I'd like to see stephen dorff in some really cool movies, he definitely has the acting chops if he could get the roles.
glen rose No, I won't watch a movie where the director refuses to use a tripod. I am reading some good reviews of the movie but no one mentions that the director thought it was cool to hand hold the cameras and have a shaky screen for the entire movie. Is this supposed to be some sort of cool effect? Count me out. It is so distracting and difficult to watch. It's about the same as someone in a theater making a bootleg version holding the camera in their hands. Really bad camera work and any sense of a good movie and or acting is not worth evaluating. My impression is that the director was insecure and needed to add this constant shaking camera to hide his fear that he could not make a good move. Count me out . I give the move zero stars. Ridiculous concept of camera work.
Armand a film about prison life who has a high ambition than be only story about a social circle. a touching film for the message and for touching moments. a film about details because its subject is not exactly the sin but the need to discover the world better . and that fact transforms it in a version of The Cout of Monte Cristo . and a surprise because not the violence defines it, not the brutal language or the strong scenes but the delicacy of hope, the courage to fight.and that fact does it different. maybe not special because the genre has its public, the actors, real impressive in this movie, are defines but others roles. but it must see it maybe for discover a different Stephen Dorff who explores in inspired manner the nuances of his character and for Val Kilmer in a rare role. a film of details. that could be the best definition in this case.
Leofwine_draca Despite the proliferation of prison movies since, well, ever, FELON manages to be a fresh and entertaining example of the genre. Stephen Dorff (remember him?) stars as an ordinary family guy who accidentally kills a burglar and finds himself in a high-security prison. The usual prison clichés abound, with a lot of the focus on brutal fisticuffs as inmates battle it out for supremacy. It reminded me a little of Van Damme's IN HELL, although while that was a pure action film with superbly staged fights, FELON concentrates on the drama between the characters.Overall, the film holds together well. Time is taken to get to know the characters, not just the prisoners but also those on the outside: the brutal guard who takes his problems home with him, the wife struggling to make it with a husband in prison. It's a film which avoids stereotyping heroes and villains and does well because of it.One of the real strengths - and this is a surprise - is Val Kilmer in a supporting role as a seasoned lifer. Kilmer turns out to be excellent, bringing real gravitas to his role; to put it bluntly, I've never seen him this good before, and watching him inhabit his role is a real pleasure. Dorff, too, is actually pretty decent, making it easy for the viewer to sympathise with his character's plight.FELON certainly isn't a classic film, and it's far from the best of the prison movie sub-genre, but it's one of those movies you catch on TV late at night which leaves a real impression. I really liked it.
