Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
GL84 After a gigantic undersea earthquake strikes Malibu, lifeguards race to save survivors from a swarm of ravenous Goblin Sharks unleashed by the underwater activities and get them to safety.Overall this is one of the best original creature features for the channels. One of the better aspects here for this one is the use of the different shark species here as the Goblin Shark is so underutilized in the scene that they're completely different species than normal and really gets some points for deciding to go a different route which isn't done all too often. Another of the better elements here is the really insane amount of action to it that comes from several different elements. The first attack on a group of parasailors makes for an incredibly fun time for the fact that both of them are taken out separately and deal with a failed rescue attempt that is quite fun. There's even more action here with the sharks trying to get at the survivors inside the shack and the images of the sharks ramming into the holes in the floor while they barricade them off is nothing but fun and a little suspenseful, a rescue attempt also manages to work well due to the race to get back to the shore being so far out, and when they get to the half-submerged construction site it gets even more fun due to the really exciting and fun encounters within the narrow corridors, and the tension present with the sharks here is great. As well, these scenes in the finale also feature an insanely cool and original way of dealing with the sharks and are a part of the fantastic action of the film. Other great stuff occurs in the film's rather insane tsunami sequence where the sight of the giant wall of water rising up and crashing down on the shore causing a ton of damage is nicely handled, the ensuing panic on the crowded beach being incredibly realistic and the visuals here are great from the sight of the lifeguard shack being swallowed up by the water to the floating construction site make the segment really worth it. The surgery scene afterward is rather nice for the brutality of the segment mixed with the ramifications of the bloodied water, and along with the gore here make for a lot to love here. There are a few flaws here, as the ever-present and ridiculous-looking CGI in here where there's barely a moment of the sharks where they look realistic, never blending into the scenes and just looking terrible. The other new method of new method of incredibly fake-looking dorsal-fin props that don't move at all and cause nothing to happen to the water around them appearing even less life-like, which leaves the sharks wholly unappealing. Otherwise, this one was a ton of fun.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Language and Brief Nudity.
Uriah43 This movie begins with an underwater earthquake off the coast of California which disturbs the sea life and results in goblin sharks suddenly appearing and feeding on people who happen to be spending time in the water near Malibu. This problem is further compounded when a tsunami hits the coastline and traps people in the water where the goblin sharks are lurking. Now, as far as the movie was concerned, I had a couple of issues with it. First, both the acting and the computer graphics left much to be desired. Second, the film provides a couple of incorrect portrayals of goblin sharks. For instance, the film suggests goblin sharks are almost extinct. While they might indeed be considered "rare" that image may be clouded by the fact that they are generally found in depths where humans seldom venture. As a result they are seldom seen. But that doesn't mean they are almost extinct. Likewise, the movie goes to great lengths to depict them as vicious man-eaters. Not necessarily. To further elaborate, an underwater earthquake near Taiwan in 2006 brought about a hundred of these creatures up near the surface. However, no great tragedy to mankind occurred that I know of. Now, that is not to say that they won't attack a human who might be splashing around in the water and bleeding profusely. I mean, they're still sharks after all so I suppose it's possible. Along with that, I must admit that they really look quite frightening and so I certainly can't fault a movie director for making them out to be like tiger sharks on steroids. It's the nature of the business. Be that as it may, one last comment about them is that, unlike their depiction in this film, they are actually quite slow and prefer to surprise their prey rather than outrace them. But again, why let the facts interfere with a good opportunity? In any case, as I mentioned earlier the cast and the second-rate animation both left much to be desired. That said, although both Peta Wilson (as "Heather") and Chelan Simmons ("Jenny") were definitely quite attractive, neither of them were able to push this movie into satisfactory territory. Accordingly, I rate the movie as below average.
david-546 OK. I saw this piece of rubbish on our Space channel. I couldn't believe how bad it was. It was so bad Donkey Punch was actually better. Clichéd. Bad acting or was it over acting. Still I watched with fascination this train wreck. Or was it a shark wreck. As to the sharks. Well they were, what can I say, over the top!If there was one thing I kept hoping for it was that all of them, and I mean all of them were eaten by the sharks. It would save us a lot of pain. But sometimes it is just fun to watch a really bad movie. No not Ed Wood bad but well just bad. Watch if you dare!!!!!!
mattkratz Just don't expect too much out of this movie, and you'll be satisfied with it. It was a reasonably scary movie. It wasn't meant to be Jaws or an Academy award winning movie at that-just entertaining. The tsunami scene was scary, and several of the shark attack scenes made me jump out of my seat, and the lady's responses to having the bandage put on her wound (SHE SCREAMED OUT IN PAIN!!!!!) were realistic. It was a good escape from reality, as movies are supposed to be. It will remind you a bit of Baywatch with a shark attack and a tidal wave thrown in for good measure. I think that if you have the time, you should check it out if you like horror/disaster/good looking people on a beach type movie.** out of ****
