Bereamic Awesome Movie
awsemadeni Fingerprints. A 2006 horror/slasher movie. I went in expecting a low budget wannabe horror movie.Fingerprints is a story about Melanie, a recovered teenage drug addict who overdosed and was brought back to life. She moves back in with her family. Her sister and dad are welcoming, her mom is a little crazy. Her sister, Crystal, explains the local tragedy to her. 50 years ago, a train and bus collided, killing 30 or so school aged children. According to urban legend, if you park your car in neutral where the accident takes place, the car will move itself across the train tracks to safety. Some people have supposedly seen fingerprints on the back of the car, as if they were pushing it across.Melanie is skeptical of the legend, but when she and her drunken friends experience it first-hand, Melanie starts to believe. Her thoughts are pushed more toward the legend when she sees a little girl, and when she researches the accident, realizes that the girl died in the bus accident. Melanie's near-death experience allows her to see the dead. The plot line and urban legend are top of the class. The film becomes a thriller toward the middle of the movie, but also becomes scarier. Despite a slow start, the movie picks up pace and the whodunit element adds to the excitement. The acting is the weak spot of the movie. Melanie and Crystal have strong counterparts, as well as Penn, Melanie's lover in the movie. Besides that however, none of the characters are believable. Especially Melanie's mom. I could not buy into her character it was so unbelievable. That could be a director's choice or an acting choice, but regardless, it was embarrassing to watch. If you are looking for an enjoyment of a ride, I encourage you to watch Fingerprints. It's on Netflex, and I can guarantee you it won't disappoint.8/10
EyeDunno I was immediately put off by the opening titles which looked like something done on a cheap home computer. Shortly thereafter, the film starts with a flashback to 1957, and yet the train shown heading towards the school bus is clearly modern - it could have been filmed without showing the actual design of the locomotive. And then the acting begins. The main character Melanie (Leah Pipes) is reunited with her father, who acts like ... an actor selling himself as a doting father. But through all the early put-offs, I watched the whole film. If this had a $1M budget, much of the money must have gone to the most well-known actors, cos it just seemed like the film needed more money for better production. When you lose viewers' ability to believe in what you're showing, it can be an uphill struggle to win back the audience. And, it didn't need so much special effects, but perhaps better cinematography and lighting. The little girl that Melanie routinely encounters could have been filmed with some kind of eerie lighting based on the fact that she's been dead (not spoilers, part of the film plot). Yet we're left guessing whether Melanie actually knows she IS dead in the first third of the movie. The story is simply hurt by some less-than-good film-making. The plot itself kept me curious enough to keep watching the next scene, even after the death of one character, whose acting made me roll my eyes. Melanie and her sister are better than most... their mother made me want to strangle her myself, so she is effective as a rude mother - until she simply goes overboard with her actions later in the film.Yet for the film's underachievement, it still has some moments in which my neck hair stood up. The screenwriter hurt a promising story just enough to call it average, yet still watchable and entertaining enough, and even though I actually didn't mind the core reasons why things happened, I groaned at the very end of the film, which made me want to throw buttered popcorn at my HDTV. I'm just glad I didn't have any at the time.
Robert W. I love cheesy horror flicks. I love horror flicks in general and I seek them out like crazy. Thank goodness for Netflix who brought a whole host of these horror flicks into my life. There is nothing in the horror genre harder than trying to create something unique and original but still keep all the necessary components to the genre. The film does all this so I have to give it props. Certainly they don't use a large genre and they even have a character played by reality TV Star Kristin Cavallari who will most certainly make people roll their eyes and laugh but you know what? She does a darn good job. The cast all take their roles seriously and I think that's important too! The film has ghosts, mystery, terror and even a great twist to the entire thriller that keeps you watching moment by moment. Fingerprints is absolutely worth seeing and it isn't even because of cheesiness or being campy because the film actually pulls off a level of seriousness. The story and the cast (especially the lead actress) will lead you through the film at a perfect pace and really keep you riveted from beginning to end. If you love ghost stories this one is aces!! Leah Pipes is heading in the right director for her career. In the last ten years she has been fighting her way up the ladder and had some good roles and perhaps this doesn't seem like something that will get her noticed but she does a terrific job in her role leading the film! Her character is disturbed, flawed and emotional. She has a real charisma on screen and as unlikely as their relationship seems she has good chemistry with Kristin Cavallari. Cavallari plays her sister who is the stereotypical party girl but her character really works. Her performance doesn't hold a candle to Pipes but she doesn't bring the cast down as one might expect. She does a decent job and she certainly plays the eye candy role properly. Josh Henderson is good as Pipes' love interest. This film is heavily reliant on the female characters so he is definitely a back seat character but he does his role decently and their chemistry is solid. Andrew Lawrence as the resident film bully is in the same boat. Back seat character, not a big focus of the film but does okay in his role. In the poorest performance of the film is straight to video, B-Movie King who was an Oscar winner at one point Lou Diamond Phillips. He is some sort of creepy teacher/role model but his role just makes the film feel campy when he is on screen and I wish they had found a different actor entirely.Director Harry Basil is about as eclectic or eccentric as you can get. He's been involved in enough main stream films as producer and actor but his directing history are mostly unknown straight to video productions like this but there is no doubt he has control over telling a story. Seeing this film makes me want to see his other films because he tells a great story and the small town setting with the hidden secrets is done very, very well. Brother writers Jason and Brian Cleveland are new to Hollywood but hopefully this proves they can tell a story even if it is in a genre that is known for being cliché and predictable. If anything the twist and mystery to this story is anything but predictable which makes this more watchable than your average cheesy horror. If you want a good mystery, something not too heavy and a little gem at the video store (or on Netflix) absolutely check this out because it doesn't disappoint. 8/10
ctomvelu1 Lou D. Phillip stars as a teacher who lives in a small town haunted by the memory of the sudden loss of a busload of children years before. A young woman (Leah Pipes) returns from rehab to her family home, only to encounter the ghost of a little girl who slowly leads her to the lost children and the reason for their disappearance. That part of the movie is OK, and follows modern ghost movie traditions. But some bright bulb apparently decided to also make this a slasher film, with big boobs on display and lots of blood-letting for the JASON and FREDDY crowd. Th slasher segments all tie into the missing children plot, but they were absolutely unnecessary and damn near ruined the movie. We know who the masked killer is way too early, too. Ignore the cheesy slasher scenes, some of which look like they were filmed and inserted as an afterthought, and focus on the ghost plot. You will be rewarded. The ending is a dilly.
