Ten years after their casino heist, four escaped convicts trace their former partner to a desert town, where he is now a lawman with no memory of his criminal past. Swelter looked like a pretty good and interesting action, thriller and when you hear the name Jean Claude Van Damme? how could it not be? Unfortunately the movie wasted JCVD,s potentials and pretty much his "exit" was lame. As for the rest of the cast? really awful both in terms of perfomances and casting aside. Definitely one of Van Damme's worst films that he ever put his name to. (0/10)

Spotting this movie at my local video store, I thought, "Well, if it has Jean-Claude Van Damme in the cast, there must be at least a decent amount of action in it." Imagine my surprise upon watching the movie when I saw that Van Damme doesn't have a great deal of screen time. Not only that, he doesn't do any martial arts in the movie. In fact, the movie really can't be called an action movie at all - there's very little stuff like gunplay and man to man fights in the finished product.Still, despite the movie's false advertising, I was willing to accept the movie being more of a drama, as long as it was well done. Unfortunately, "Swelter" is not a well done movie. The biggest problem is that it is incredibly SLOW. For example, it takes more than an HOUR of the total running time before the central protagonist finds himself in trouble. And the movie isn't terribly interesting up to that point or beyond that point. There are additional problems as well. The movie obviously had a limited budget. While the finished product doesn't look extremely cheap and tacky, there are signs of restraint, like the constant shooting of actors close to the camera (there are few "wide" shots in the movie.) Also, the script is not only slow, there are a number of unanswered questions like how someone with amnesia could be elected sheriff, or how the hero got away with the money with a bullet in his head all those years ago.While this is far from the worst movie I've ever seen, in the end it will likely be a letdown to anyone who watches it, whether they are expecting an action movie or a hard-boiled drama.

One of the worst movies i have seen in a while.Pretty decent story and directing. A couple of the actors were on Tommy Wiseau's level and others really delivered like Grant Bowler and Lennie James, they did a really good job. I did not expect Van Damme to actually be an okay actor. The thing i really disliked were the choice of music and sometimes the music were too high. I only managed to watch half this movie then I almost felt depressed and said to myself; Why am i looking at this when i can actually watch a decent movie.If they changed some of the actors to someone who actually can portray these roles and if they changed the music department it might have got maybe 4-5 stars from me, but as it stands now it will not get more than 2 if it even should have got that many.

In the vein of the brutal heist drama Reservoir Dogs, the modern crime thriller A History of Violence, and the classic western High Plains Drifter, Swelter is a violent story of greed and retribution. it's a action movie a film with van Dame . his role it's different than other film ,you go to watch this film because is a real funny film action movie with shootings ,drama ,yeahh I'am exciting there are many good actor ,i love a new role for van Dame. good different idea ,classic western with suspense,include family drama,there are a solid climax. It is a Las Vegas history: Five men armed with submachine guns hit a casino for over one hundred million dollars.I recommend this film because it's a different action movie.a film with van Dame with anew drama role ,it's unusual .
