Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Desertman84 This romantic comedy is based on the 1953 Audrey Hepburn classic movie entitled Roman Holiday.Mandy Moore stars in it as the 18-year old daughter of the President of the United States who wants to attain independence.Included in the cast are Matthew Goode,Jeremy Piven,Annabella Sciorra,Caroline Goodall and Mark Harmon.Anna Foster has lived a privilege life and has always been in the public eye especially after her father,James Foster was elected as President which kept her in constant presence of the Secret Service. Then during the family's trip to Europe, she managed to escape the agents and went into a trip of her own.During her brief time alone, she meets and falls in love with Ben,a British boy with whom she kept her social status secret. Both enjoyed a great time together.Later, she finds out the real identity of Ben and what he is all about.Obviously, the movie does not escape formula in the sense that everything becomes clichéd and predictable until the end.Too bad that the story becomes somewhat unfocused as the story progresses.Mandy Moore tried to do her best but her charm and appeal isn't enough to make it a more-than-an-average movie.Only young viewers particularly kids and pre-teens will surely enjoy it.
venkat1926 this film is taken after 9 '0 11. thematically irresponsible. it is OK that it is romantic to find first daughter trying to escape the security and to enjoy life like any other girl of her age. This is like ROMAN HOLIDAY where the Princess of England tried to escape the protocol and wanted to enjoy a few days like an ordinary middle class girl. Those were the days when the world was safer. But this is after 9 'o 11.suppose the FIRST DAUGHTER is kidnapped by terrorists how many Americans and perhaps citizens of other nations have to lose their lives to rescue her, if they rescue her at all. The president's daughter has no business to have such liberty and the nation does not give her all the special treatment to behave so irresponsibly.
SandyLiz This movie is terrible. It's like the actors were phoning in their lines. The exciting parts were good but obviously done by stunt doubles. The scenery was good but undoubtedly faked. The crowd scene was the only good part. And the motorcycle rides were okay. The story was silly and unbelievable. This is obviously a movie for girls under the age of 13. I love Matthew Goode but even he couldn't save this movie. If you want to see Matthew Goode in a good romantic comedy try Leap Year. It has a better script, better acting (Matthew is amazing) and about adults unlike Chasing Liberty that shows immature, clueless characters.
CitizenCaine Once again, Mandy Moore is paired up with a young, up and coming, good-looking male star: Matthew Goode. This time she's the rebellious daughter of the president who is tired of having her father (Mark Harmon) ordering secret service agents to follow her every move. Goode plays an "undercover" agent who just happens upon Moore one night when Moore tries escaping from the other agents watching her. The entire incident is orchestrated by her father who is simply trying to loosen up by allowing his daughter a sense of freedom, albeit controlled freedom. What could have been a parody of the Patriot Act turns into a failed, would be attempt at Roman Holiday for the teen set. The film carries on interminably, especially in the second half, and could have been aided slightly by some healthy cutting. The film tries to get by with a fatal over-reliance on Mandy Moore's charm, which wears off quickly with each passing minute. Far more interesting was the developing banter between two agents following Moore in Europe: Jeremy Piven and Annabella Sciorra. The two elder agents find themselves falling for each other while tracking Moore and her agent-companion Goode. Goode appears too old and mature for Moore in this film, and whose idea was it for Moore to wear cargo pants throughout most of the film? A forgettable film. *1/2 of 4 stars.
