Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Beanbioca As Good As It Gets
Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Stevieboy666 Seems to be much hate for this movie. Yes, the 1974 is a classic. This is a loose remake which expands the story, throws in plenty of gore plus some black humour. It's a slasher flick for the noughties and should be viewed with that mind set. Some great camera work, decent cast plus great use of colour, it's a fun flick for the festive period. Nothing more, nothing less.
rockman182 I watched the original film for the first time not too long ago and really enjoyed it. I saw the 2006 installment right when it came out but couldn't really remember it. I'm very into horror films though so I decided it was time for a rewatch to see if this could be more enjoyable the second time around. I do like horror movies revolving around a holiday, it doesn't happen that often but it really should. This film is a loose remake of the original, that takes place in a sorority house. The film follows a group of girls who are being hunted down by a yellow skinned killer named Billy Lenz. He is a murdered who broke out of prison and is looking for his sister at the same house the girls currently inhabit. The film becomes a slasher film where the body count increases while the blood is splattered everywhere. The film is very violent. Eyes get gauged out, heads get pierced, multiple stabbing occurs, heads roll, its all very bloody. Its not very holiday friendly but who the hell cares. If you are squeamish during these types of films, this won't be for you. The story isn't really exactly strong, there aren't any really scary moments, nor is the end something groundbreaking or unpredictable. The film follows conventional horror tropes and norms when you really get past the ultra violent nature.Overall, its a throwaway film and not really anything you'll be visiting during Christmas or Halloween for that matter. The film does offer a nice cast of pretty ladies (loving me some Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and good violence. Its predictable and generic but you get some bloody fun out of it, which is the intention of this film. No need to compare to the original, let it stand on its own.6/10
Realrockerhalloween I am a big fan of horror films, I've seen all the major big boys and had seen them dozens of times that I knew em by heart. As I expanded my tastes I happened on black Christmas. For a Christmas film it was violent, bloody and had sexual scenes making it a classic for me right away.I hadn't seen the original or knew it existed at the time and thought it was a hack and slash thriller. The lights, decorations and Santa suit all make for an enchanting look that swallows you whole. It really feels like Christmas and gave it much needed atmosphere that will either make or break a horror movie.Characterization was wonderful. At first all the girls are protested as being snobbish yet as it goes on you see hints of their true selves. I even felt pity or outrage for one character named Leigh and her sister Clair. It was very sweet and heart breaking. The death scenes were different from the ones shown in the trailer and yet it was very throughout and I noticed a common theme the killer went for in each dealing with a body part that I won't spoil for you. You'll see a few familiar faces from other genre's up in us on This chilling expedition. My own complaint is Billy's backstory. I read the original script that omitted it completely leaving us shrouded in mystery. The way it should be.Its a fun popcorn flick to share with friends.
lothos-370-690020 No one watching this could argue there is anything remotely resembling an original idea here. From the killers "motivations", to the method in which the victims are dispatched, we've all seen it before. It was a nice touch to have a back story told through flashbacks, but the emphasis there was on the disturbing scenes for the sake of shock, and not on explaining motivation, which we simply have to cobble together on our own. Despite this lack of information most will guess the killers identity before the end. Having one killer "unknown" while the other is seen committing his murders leaving no hint of mystery is a nice touch though. They got a lot of talented actresses to appear in this schlock, I can only assume they were all going through dry patches in their careers. From a technical point of view I can't fault it. Scenes are shot well, editing is good, but the cant make up for the overall feel of the movie, which is the afore mentioned lack of originality. I know this is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, and even stars one of the original actors, but the question I have is, did this film really need to be remade? I don't believe so, and I think it's a symptom of the lazy and over all lack of originality sweeping the American movie industry now. As a rule of thumb, I no longer bother with remakes or sequels when they come out and only see them later, if they get great reviews.
