Suman Roberson It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Janae Milner Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
Roxie The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
zif ofoz i watched this movie start to finish - as i do with 99.9% of all movies i choose to see. this movie has a lot going for it and a lot going to ruin it.the characters - paul, katie, and jeff come across as spoiled trust fund kids that have nothing to do but "deal with their emotions"! paul is totally unbelievable as the grief stricken widower (or whatever he is). paul is just shallow and myopic and completely unconvincing from start to finish. katie adds nothing to the story. and jeff comes across as the only level headed character but drops that element mid story. pathetic! but the cinematography along the hudson river is beautiful and spellbinding. if the 'actors' could be deleted this movie it would be a 10 star flick.if you want to see some beautiful scenes of the hudson river valley this is a great choice. and the soundtrack is wonderful. but all spoiled by a pointless story and bad acting and numb dialog.
agathecoblentz This is one of my favorite films. It asks the question: Is it ever OK to let a young, healthy man commit suicide? It makes one think: If that were my friend, would I let him do it? If I was in that awful dark place, would I secretly wish my friends would stop me? I saw the movie last year & it still comes up in conversations. I love that the story isn't weighed down with religion. It's a true: "What would you do" movie. What is right? The scenery is gorgeous. You can almost feel the rocking of the boat & the blub, blub, blub of our swimmer's breath as he works his way down river.It helps too, that the star looks gorgeous in a wetsuit!
mellowinman Very moving. Everything about this movie worked for me. Top-notch acting. Great dialogue. Fantastic cinematography. I don't get all the wannabe critics, ready to call out directors, using terms like "heavy handed," "pretentious," etc. This was a compelling story, and any departures from the main story were there to add humanity. Everyone involved should be very proud. They made a movie that was different, and worth our time. (mine, anyway) The ending left no doubt in my mind what happened. I didn't find any ambiguity whatsoever. I felt it was moving, and insightful. I think people need to open up to those films that are a little different. This is one such film.
G K This movie took my breath away. I LOVE Justin Kirk, that guy is amazing and he did not disappoint. I won't give away any spoilers but the story completely pulls you in and you can't wait to see what happens next.I don't know that I loved the sideline with Mary Tyler Moore. I can see its value but I just wanted to see more of the three core characters. I also think they could've done more with the storyline with Justin Kirk's character and the difficulty with his wife.This film is gorgeous to watch but will also stay with once the end credits are done rolling. Best to see it with someone so that you can discuss it afterwards!
