Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Jakoba True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
Alan Smithee Esq. An all around excellent thriller. The story and pacing are unrelenting. The set up is rather unique and continues to be a truly engrossing film with an excellent climax. The violence is not over the top or gratuitous but is extremely realistic which just adds to the tension. A very cool and intense movie.
johndescy If you like action thrillers, can cope with some small logical "errors" (the kind most action thrillers have) and want something a little off the beaten track when it comes to setting, this movie is for you. Eight points for keeping the tension pretty high for almost the entire movie, yet not being too shallow. Acting is decent without any embarrassments. We also have a few beautiful Scottish landscape shots and some neat stunt work to round it off. Surely not the most artistic piece of film, but I really had a good time watching it. Maybe I would have given it only seven points, if I didn't think it was kind of underrated here on IMDb with a current average of six points.
David Arnold It's always pleasing to actually find these smaller budget titles when looking through other films as they sometimes have a tendency to be much better than the usual multi-million Dollar Hollywood "blockbusters".I'm originally from Scotland but now living in America and I had never heard of A Lonely Place to Die before, so when I read the description of what it was about, I watched the trailer and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did because it turned out to be a very enjoyable film. One thing I was a bit wary about when watching the trailer was that the film did appear as if it would be a bit slow at times between the scenes with more action. I'm happy to say my fears were put to rest, because the film moved at a decent enough pace, and even during these lull's there was enough tension to keep my interest. The story's well written and there are plenty of moments that combine action & suspense with the setting of the Scottish Highlands (of which the photography was excellent) adding to that suspense. The cast were excellent for the most part as well, with Melissa George doing a great job especially (she's come a LONG way since her Home & Away days). I don't think I've ever seen her give a bad performance in any movie I've seen her in, whether it was 30 Days Of Night or Triangle. A couple of cast members - mainly Sean Harris and Eamonn Walker - were just a wee bit over-the-top with some aspects of their performances and their broad London accents felt a bit forced (which is strange considering they are both Londoners). If I have any complaints about A Lonely Place to Die it would be that it got just a WEE bit ridiculous towards the end with certain scenes in the (fictional) town of Annan Moor, but these are small points and were not enough to ruin what is a very good film.If you enjoy good thrillers and have not seen this movie yet then give it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised.
jpdhadfield i had never heard of this film, but it looked interesting, as it was set in the highlands, well i wasn't disappointed. It starts with them mountaineering, on sheer cliffs, with amazing scenery, made me want to visit Scotland. Then the story starts for real, and its a roller coaster ride all the way until the end, scary, and thrilling.spoiler alert I read some of the negative reviews before i saw the film, and some of the things they said made sense, like why did they have to steal guns off the hunters, when they had their own guns? why didn't the climbers run towards the road the baddies drove down, why did the body guards mumble everything they said, but over all they are tiny things, its still a very good film, and id watch it again.
