Synopsis

The story of two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing at an early age due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a working-class neighborhood. Things come to a dramatic head when both families meet and struggle to learn how to live together for the sake of the girls.

mahletye-96368 Overall, this is a great show the only negative thing I have to say about it is the affects of the situation on one of the main characters, Bay, when everybody finds out about "the switch" it seems that everybody but her benefits in some way. The Kennishs make an effort to get to know Daphne, which results in them giving Bay, and her feelings less consideration. And if that wasn't bad enough, Regina barely tries to get to know Bay at all, she, also, focuses more on Daphne. On Bay and Daphne's birthday, Regina doesn't even get Bay a birthday present, even though not only did the Kennishs get Daphne a car, but Bay was the only person who was willing to let Regina come to the party, if it weren't for Bay, she wouldn't have been welcome at the party at all.
samara-gale Who would have thought that statutory rape would be so casually accepted? A sexual predator who is so o oo o o handsome that dumb 16 year old Daphne cannot resist him and is just compelled to offer her body up to him Does this much older man (and boss) not realize that this is statutory rape? Come on. He is her boss; he knows her age. And this is glossed over like it is no big deal. Wow. I hope this is not considered a family show because when a 16 year old is shown looking at her birth control pills in preparation for sex with a much older man it destroys all credibility I thought, up to this point, that Daphne's character was intelligent, well adjusted and had lots of common sense due to her ever so righteous mother. The writers must have concluded that she was coming across as just too decent and had to join the ranks of promiscuous American teens. This was the end for me.
Teodora Flavia Romocia Maybe at beginning this show seems to be cheese but, if you start watching you will understand that "switched at birth" is more then an story about to girls and there superficial life, like most of the shows this days. This show was an educational story, awakening, it was about awareness (and I am sad I need to write in the past tens). An show witch whit its sweet story, try to make people aware about deaf people, down syndrome people, all kinds of racism, misconceptions, prejudices is an show that SHOULD GO ON FOR MORE THEN 5 SEASONS! There are so many good thinks to say about this show but the most important is to advise all of you to watch it, try to see beyond the story, and then try to make an change after, make an difference, stop being afraid of unknown, question thinks around you, be patient whit people around you, and if they are different try to know them, give them an chance. This is my perception about the message of this show and I think the best way to cherish the great time of this show is by making an change in the way we look at; for start deaf people, and then all the different people around us.
chubbydave If you're tired of the same old same old unbearable sitcoms with jokes that were outdated in the 90s with not so subtle sexual humor, then this is for you. I don't remember any show that had a major deaf character, but in this show about half the characters are deaf, and a lot of the dialogue is in sign language. It's a gutsy move to do this, but they pull it off beautifully.Another thing about the show is that the actors are all like able. The actress who played the lovable Angie Lopez. Another actor with sentimental pull at least for me is Vanessa Marano who played Luke's long lost daughter on The Gilmore Girls. And then there's 80s/90s teen young adult star Lea Thompson. Relative unknown Katie Leclerc has adorable freckles and plays one of the deaf characters. One thing that they kind of overdo... kind of? No, they overdo this to the hilt, and that's how easily the characters are offended by the slightest little noting. Every show, in fact, almost every scene involves one of the characters being offended at something someone else said and then storming out. Then they spend the next half dozen scenes pouting. It's a little past too much, guys. But other than that it's a great show. A young actor Sean Berry plays a very cool and very wise for his age best friend to one girl and boyfriend to another. He's just really cool.
