Cortechba Overrated
MamaGravity good back-story, and good acting
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
BurgessMI6 I really wanted this show to work. I loved the Stargate SG1 and Atlantis series and seeing the cast members perhaps I set my expectations too high.In my opinion this show is just to indulge Amanda Tappings ego that she could run around being the hero and put on an English accent (and a dreadful one at that) if you haven't heard it imagine American Amateur Dramatics putting on a Mary Poppins show. The story lines manage to somehow marry both the dull and incredulous which I guess is some sort of achievement SPOILER,,,,*****(just see the Jack the Ripper/I am your father scene for example)****SPOILER and the CGI are rushed and not very well done. Harry Potter this is not.In short, if you're under 12 and or think Buffy is the height of creative writing maybe give it a go. If you really enjoy sci-fi and plot driven adventure avoid at all costs. Badly written, badly acted ego trip.
Souzi Karpouzi Sanctuary will please and entertain every sci-fi fan that is not interested only in space based stories.Interesting and fan to watch characters with great chemistry between them, developing as the series progresses. Mrs Tapping gracefully leads the way with a character that is no way near SG1's Sam Carter... after the initial startle of seeing her with long dark hair, civilian clothing and a British accent, you definitely can't help but let yourself be carried away into her adventures. Decent -sometimes very well- writing, acting and directing, very good music score, but the big breakthrough came with the use of green screen for almost 90% of the scenery and close courters shooting of the show. Sanctuary essentially broke the limits of the creative process as far as landscaping is concerned.4 seasons really not enough. Hope it will come back for more!
bangzinga I have attempted to watch sanctuary dozens of times and can't stand it for more than 10 minutes! I absolutely loved Amanda in stargate so watching her overact here with the worst English accent is unbearable! The story line had promise but went over the top with some of the creatures which were totally ridiculous! I did catch a few minutes the other night where a vampire like person was fighting another thing! The actors playing the parts were thin and not powerful looking even with the makeup and special effects! The fight scene was pathetic and didn't make me want to watch the show! I am a huge scifi fan and love alternative shows but this is awful! My main problem is with Amanda's accent which is so unnatural and not believable not to mention I hate most English accents anyway and I don't understand why she would be required to sound English! The other problem with the show is the storyline which falls short!
MonteViste Everything that can be said about this program is more than likely already lurking among these pages. However, having just watched the first episode, I was once more struck by a recurring problem with Canadian/American productions that feature characters that have English accents. Why oh why can't they be bothered to employ mother tongue British script editors to check the script before recording them? The fact that Amanda Tapping's character has an English accent is at once compelling and of course she was born in England which is also quite interesting. Being raised in Canada however she has, reasonably enough, a Canadian accent and so speaking with an English accent must have been a little odd for her - British viewers will certainly be able to hear that oddness every now and then. Not to detract from her very obvious talent of course, she is very good and totally steals every scene. She's certainly the only reason why I might consider watching episode 2! The telling problem however lies, as ever, with the script. In this first episode there were three glaring errors: Magnus remarks to Zimmerman, "I could use your help". We would never say that, instead we would say, "I could do with your help".Magnus proposes to Zimmerman, "...having a hard time accepting it...". We would never employ such a 100% American expression. Instead we would say, "...having difficulty in accepting that...".The character Druitt, also supposedly English, remarks "...put her someplace more dangerous..." Not in a million years would we use the inexistent word someplace. The word, on this side of the Atlantic, is "somewhere".So come on American producers, sort yourselves out. If you can't find anyone else give me a call I would be more than happy to proof read your English character scripts for you. Anything to help avoid these horrendous gaffes that you keep making.Rant over....
