Nice effects though.

It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

Great period piece with intriguing storyline. Plot develops many of the characters which draws in the viewer's interest. Costuming and Store set are perfection.

folks..I am obsessed with the 20th century..before the 50s...and especially stores...The May Company, Higbee's and Halles, all in the past sadly, along with the memories..instead we have wal mart...and ..that is it as Target, while being an upper class wal mart, sadly it is an overpriced one..Mr.Selfridge is the boss I dreamed of having..hard working yet respectful of his extended family...his employees.you feel the excitement in the 1st season as his partner leaves him high and dry..yet, he marches on with only success and the pitfalls of family and work..how i dream of the past, of the pageantry of getting dressed up on a tuesday to go downtown and shop with me mum..a lil england there folks..lol..to put on my lip on tie and get on a buss..which i still call trolley..and head out for a day in the big city!..even though we lived 3.5 miles away..Christmas was the best, the windows downtown were 2nd to none..if you saw "A Christmas Story" you saw what I mean in the beginning of the movie...but I admit, I am on my 3rd viewing of the entire series and of course study the real Mr.Selfridge vs this version..and..i will stop there..lol..anyhow..best series ever!

Awesomely detailed sets, costumes, story, acting, crowd directing, and overall production. Reminds me of the Jeremy Brett "Sherlock Holmes" series. But this series really finds itself in episode 5, when each of the story-lines finds its groove and the cast and crew really give it their all. Never liked Piven much until this. Frances O'Connor is spell-binding as Mrs. Selfridge!Oh, and it's true to history, at least the basic backbone of the storyline is.

We were lead to this show after finding out that it was the reason "The Paradise" were canceled, both my wife and I enjoyed "The Paradise" and were hoping to be blown away by Mr. Selfridge. That didn't happen, it is a good series but it is missing one important character that Paradise had, namely Denise, Mr Selfridge tries hard but Jeremy Piven is not that good an actor, his deliverance is mediocre at best, the story itself is charming though and that is why we watched the entire first 2 series.I don't think they should have canceled The Paradise, there would have been room for both.
