Synopsis

Blood and Honor: Youth Under Hitler, 1982 is a German/American made for TV mini-series which was a co-production between Daniel Wilson Productions and S.W.F and Taurus Films. The original screenplay was by Helmut Kissel and was partly based on his own experience as a member of the Hitler Youth. The scripts that were eventually shot, however, were written by Robert Muller. Helmut Kissel led as the director of the project but was replaced by Bernd Fischerauer within the first couple of weeks when shooting started. The shooting was on location in Baden-Baden, West Germany with the first 4 weeks in August 1980 and the rest of the production was completed between January through March in 1981. Each scene was shot both in English and in German and resulted in two versions of the film. The post production of the German version was completed in spring of 1982. It premiered on West German TV in July 1982 and the American version premiered in November 1982.

Steineded How sad is this?
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
phil allen Terrific TV series, and a distinguished part of the canon of film about European youth during the War. Attend to the numerous views of 'youth being young', whether scoring love or approval--even in '30s Germany. The scene of 'high-school graduation' couples jumping hand-in-hand through a bonfire is a heart stopper,..as though it had happened 10,000 years ago.
joedogboy68 I remember seeing this mini-series on TV in my freshman year of high school.I remember it as a gripping story about a young man being seduced into the Hitler Youth, and the manipulation of the boys and girls destroying friendships and families, while at the same time convincing them that only Hitler and the Nazi party truly cared about them. It really made me understand how someone like Hitler could recruit young followers to his cause.I'd like to see it again, partly to see if it is as well made as I remember, and partly to include it in a series for students about propaganda and indoctrination.Other titles that would fit include: Europa Europa Swing Kids and Taps
jgfox I saw this when it first aired (English version) and was mesmerized by its portrayal of the rise of the Nazi party. Party propaganda reached all phases of family life. It was persistent, methodical, and effective. Wonderfully directed and acted. I think it is a classic in its portrayal of family life and the slow corrosive effect of propaganda. After watching it, I had a better understanding of how a targeted society can be perverted . one by one, family by family.I believe I have a copy of it on tape . have to visit the basement, find it, and replay it.
