hayes991 I'm African American and there's this hidden rule we don't speak about that you like something just because black folks are in it.. sorry, never been that person. This is surprisingly bad. I though it was just me but then I started reading the other reviews. This could've been well done but it seems like they wanted to produce something really fast and didn't pay attention to detail. You can't even feel for LM's family cause the wife's a jerk with her hot cold love drama and the daughters are over privileged as$holes. Guy gets paralayzed and we just forget he exists? I'm just torturing myself through the series but he's so attractive I'm thinking they will figure out how to bring him back. Their life just seems too unrealistic . The parenting is atrocious and just the thought process in what could be a good series is not thought out. Was liking the villain til he did that stupid common over exerted neck rolls all villains do. The crazy side chick is overdone. I could go on but then I'd have a better series written in these reviews than the actual show we're talking about. Please fix your characters, give them some depth and for the love of god, special effects could be used. Again I thought it was me being picky but reading the reviews the special effects are horrible and who in their da$n mind can't tell that's the principal!! Lol . Are they all smoking that "green light"! Lol

mikeburdick With a lull between Marvel shows, I was hoping Black Lightning would hit the spot, only to be so disappointed in so many ways:The script seems like it was written by a middle school kid. The characters are one-dimensional, either good or bad, no moral complexity, no depth. There's one storyline and it's completely predictable, not one surprise. The family situations have all the sappiness and preachiness of an after-school special. There's virtually no levity and the attempts at jokes are pathetic.The acting is terrible. While much of the blame goes to the director, it amazes me that they couldn't find a better actor for the lead role. Cress Williams seems incredibly self-conscious and often appears to be searching for the appropriate expression. James Remor hasn't improved on his wooden acting since "Warriors" 40 years ago. And nobody told Krondon to reel it in? The fight scenes are boring. Either Black Lightning is zapping or he's not able to for some reason. That's the major thrust of the action. Oh, and Thunder stomps. And the bad guys kill anybody for pretty much any reason. Pretty blunt stuff. The camera work is infuriating. The DoP consistently employs the dreaded "Batman angle" and half the time the camera's hidden behind a plant or a shelf for no reason. The art direction and wardrobe...just wow. The home looks like a Pottery Barn catalogue, as if nobody actually lives there. Nobody actually sleeps in those beds or dirties a dish. Jefferson is a school principal who always dresses more like a lawyer in his three-piece suit. The worst, though, goes to the superhero costumes, which ought to be the highlight, yet come off as impressive for Comicon. The shame is, I really wanted to like "Black Lightning." I kept watching, hoping for a twist or a deeper story, like the Marvel shows-"Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage"-with well-drawn, flawed characters, realistic conversations and engaging plot twists. It is, alas, more akin to a Saturday morning show from my childhood, like "Shazam" or "Wonder Woman."

jvhout So I started to watch this because I like most of the superhero stories. The storieline is about the black lightning and his family and off course the battle against bad guys.First off, I'm European and have a different view on the whole racial thing. So watching this made me think about how the us of a still is struggling with this issue. And there are a lot of stereotypes. It's a shame the producers decided to do it this way. It will keep the whole racial thing alive. I think its a big issue in the usa.The cast is very enjoyable and most act in a natural way, this makes it all believable and watchable. For example Anna McClain acting performance is very good, spontaneous, and very believable. It looks at times she really loves the story.Okay, so it's a good show but not great. Several things keep it from being great, like: The costumes are nice but are missing something to make them great. It looks cheap and quickly made. The costume of thunder just looks funny. And didn't fully fit the actress. There are some serious storyline flaws. For example, thunder needs to inhale before she can use her powers. While she did this she is being shot by several guys with automatic weapons but all bullits bounce of her. Later she is in a fist fight and she does the same. The other hits her on that moment in the belly en suddenly she falls down.... But overall it's a nice and good series. Just keep a bit open mind about the little flaws left and right and you be enjoying this show a lot.
