Synopsis

Becker is a dedicated, outspoken and talented doctor with a gruff exterior. While he tends to offend those who try to get close to him, he is extremely dedicated to his medical practice in the Bronx, N.Y., where he always goes the extra mile to help those in need. But Dr. John Becker looks at the world around him and sees a society gone mad, full of incongruities and just plain wrong thinking. And he has no qualms about saying anything that comes to mind – anything.

Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
michael thompson Ted Danson nails Becker. And Becker is every man..As an Englishman, I would say that Becker is the sharpest comedy on the block since Neil Simon's The Odd Couple. When Terry Ferrell left the show it lost something. Becker is a very very sharp comedy, even the canned laughter works, and every character is strong, and the writers are brilliant. Then the character Bob left the show, and the last series lost something.Well done to Dave Hackel for creating this character. I for one would like to know what or who gave Dave Hackel the idea for Becker ?, and who choose Ted Danson for the the role of Doctor John Becker ?????10 out of 10 for this screwball, ultimately farcical comedy.
jpickerel For some reason, I didn't see this show until it went into reruns. Now, I have to scramble early in the morning to catch it. Ted Danson does a great job as the crotchety doctor, with a less than desirable practice in a less than desirable neighborhood. His crabbiness extends to just about everyone, from his able assistant, Margaret (Hattie Winston) to her not so able helper, Linda (Shawnee Smith), and to his patients. His bedside manner is atrocious (long before House came along). He has no patience with authority or poor service from anyone. Yet, he comes off as lovable. (His battle to stop smoking is extremely funny). This is a tribute to Danson and the writers. The ensemble cast is near perfect. Alex Dessert as the blind newsstand owner, Jake, and Saverio Guerra as Bob, the regular at the diner who has few redeeming qualities, grows on you. Great show, this one kinda sneaks up on you.
dalegough1 what medical field was john Becker so "promising" in as Reggie referred to (something her late father said) it in seas 1, was his divorce (1st or 2nd) part of the reason he was in the Bronx helping out the poorer folk eg - wife/wives cleaned him out?, wife/wives scandalised johns name so he couldn't work in the ritzy part of town with wealthy patients?, was he researching something and then either grew discouraged (thru family or friend having got the specific disease he was researching?, or did he have a fit of conscience (why a fit of conscience) and go there to deal with those who couldn't really afford medical care? what was he so good at that it was mentioned by Reggie and her late dad. is it just one of those things which was a line on a script and the background was never either written or thought about. love the show, waiting for the seas 2 DVD to come out.
normanlk99 I am not one who normally watches television, let alone a particular show, but, Becker IS the only show I record on my digital video recorder so I can watch it at my earliest convenience. Often times, I will watch it more than once because I enjoy it so much. My girlfriend and I sometimes watch it together, but she is not as loyal to Becker as I am. She says I am already like Dr. John Becker, and laughs about it as she says it. I am not sure if she finds the show more entertaining, or the similarities between him and me more entertaining. I only wish I had known about the show earlier. I had never heard of it (or seen it) until September of 2005 after I came off the road driving OTR. Becker IS the best TV show... EVER! I watch it religiously and am always guaranteed many good laughs! Enjoy it, too, and watch it!
