morrison-dylan-fan Recently having a good run of viewing movies I've been meaning to watch for ages,I decided to take a look at the titles I'm hoping to sell after viewing. Buying this (thankfully cheap) due to it being a bit pricey online, I got set to count the "wild" zeros.View on the film:Made on a budget lower than the band members quiffs,co-writer/ (with Satoshi Takagi) director Tetsuro Takeuchi & cinematographer Motoki Kobayashi attempt to play Sci-Fi/zombie Horror and weird Road Movie notes all at the same time. Shot on flat digital video,Takeuchi fails to light any of the Grindhouse sparks on offer,with the Psychobilly songs played by the band (whose faces are stuck in mildly disinterested mode) being badly mashed In the audio,and the zombie/UFO effects looking cheap and grotty. Attempting to go for a dreamy vibe in the screenplay, the writers instead turn it into a nightmare, via none of the characters being given a distinctive edge,and the Sci-Fi/Horror elements being left to hit bum notes.

angelynx-2 Can't help echoing a bunch of the other comments here; this is one of the most --maybe even THE most--fun, high-energy, and surprisingly touching and endearing movies in the rock-horror genre EVER. I would never have expected to use the words "touching and endearing" in reviewing a movie that contains so much gore and detonated skulls, but so help me Dead Elvis, this baby has its head and heart squarely in the right place. It sincerely BELIEVES in the life-saving power of true love, loyal friendship and rock'n'roll, and it puts itself on the line to prove it. Enough people here have run down the basic plot, so I won't: but, holy smoke you guys! Laser-beam-firing anti-zombie guitar picks! Flame-shooting microphones! Flame-shooting motorcycles! A magic whistle that calls The Coolest Garage Rock Band on Earth, Guitar Wolf (OWOOOO!) to your aid when all seems lost! Hordes of lurching blue zombies muttering "zuuunoo..." (yeah, that's Japanese for "braaiiin...")! and, geez, that transcendent moment when G. Wolf yanks a katana out of the neck of his guitar like that avenging sister in "Zatoichi" and **slices a spaceship in half**!! What more could you possibly want?! How about a wonderful little cross-gender romance? Got that, too!--and the moment when G. Wolf (who BTW I think does an excellent job of playing himself, as do his bandmates B. Wolf and D. Wolf) strikes a heroic stance and counsels our hero, Ace, to believe in love and not in boundaries made me cheer out loud. I guess people who like their zombie movies grim and ugly won't care for it (their loss); but anyone who loved "Six-String Samurai" or "Samurai Fiction" or the BRILLIANT anime "Samurai Champloo" ought to love this (it's got some zombies too); anyone who loves "Rock'n'Roll High School" ought to love this; aw heck, anyone who believes in the power of rock'n'roll ought to love this. Do not miss it. You will automatically become cooler just by spending time with this little gem.

punkonabike Wild Zero.If I could rate this movie a 17, I would. Simply, it has everything life should be about: Rock N' Roll, gratuitous hair combing, trans-gendered 'damsels' in distress, a confused club owner named 'Captain' who sports tie-up hot pants, Japanese muscle cars adorned with Christmas lights, and to top it off, blue space zombies.The cinematography made me pee a little, and the fact that the heroes of the film were named after the obvious combination of musical instruments and wild animals made me need to change my underwear on numerous occasions.Also, Guitar Wolf could hear the dog whistle he gave to Ace, who was nimbi one good actor.Numba one good movie! I seriously recommend this movie to everyone with half a brain and no one but yourself to eat it. Good on all occasions: Bar Mitzvahs, Weddings, Funerals, Wakes, Birthdays and especially nights with your friends where you all dress as punk rock zombies and drink - as the last comment says - any time ANY person either combs their hair or says 'rock n' roll.'

Dan Denholt Once every now and then, comes a movie that transcends mere celluloid and becomes something more. Something so saturated with style, attitude and it's own complete universe, that it becomes a way of thinking, a way of perceiving life. WILD ZERO is such a movie.Is it perfect? No, perhaps not. But that doesn't matter. It does things it's own way, making it's own rules and flippantly laughing at conventions and "the right way to do things".It's a thrill ride of violence, craziness, drinking, driving and, most importantly, Rock 'n' Roll. And it grabs you by the eyeballs and makes you laugh, makes you scream and blows your mind with it's frenetic pace and insane, over the top ideas. When the grand finale rolls around you will think it's the most natural thing in the world to happen.The acting is over the top and cheesy for just about everyone, but that's the only way to make something like this work. Hell, when is the last time you saw a Japanese movie with cool quotable dialog?Everything in this movie comes nicely together to make an experience that is more than the sum of it's parts. A wild and crazy, rock 'n' roll thrill ride with zombies, aliens, shoot outs, love and the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world: Guitar Wolf.Highest of recommendations.
