I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
Suman Roberson
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Candida
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

First and foremost let me say this: this is not an MMA movie. This isn't really even a sports movie, per se. It is really a drama about a family and the relationships inside that family and the sport of mma just happens to be the backdrop that carries the story forward. I know a lot of people that didn't watch it because they don't like mma or even sports movies and I tell them exactly what I wrote above. I rated this a 10; and I only give movies a rating of 10 if they manage to move me emotionally - they have to move beyond just mere entertainment. This movie will make you cry and it will force you to reevaluate your own relationships with those around you. This is an an amazing movie, and amazing drama and it's disappointing how many people haven't and won't ever see it simply because they think it's a "mma movie."Seriously, watch this movie.

A drama made for men as they say, and yeah, pretty much. Two brothers form a broken home got into a fighting contest, while dealing with their issues.Simple story and conflict, and it is kind of predictable I not going to lie. But that is not the reason this isn´t worth a watch. The performances are all excellent and each one of the characters are motivated, this creates an interesting tension and great scenes. You just have to cheer up when each one of the brothers defeat their opponents. And I'm going into too much spoiler but the moment where Nick Nolte´s has a breakdown, want to cry you really want to.Another wonderful thing is the cinematography, each character has its own visual look, later we have a tv sport feel to it with grain, shaky cam and close-ups.But I'm not going to lie the fact that this is a male drama gives the movie some point, since there really isn't any movies like this, I guess filmmakers view melodrama as not a very "manly" genre. Although there is still a conflict with family members, I've yet to see a drama film between men who aren't blood/legal/romance related, at least in modern America.

Wow, all those good ratings for this bloated and silly movie. Yes, Nolte was great, but Hardy WAY over did his brooding mysterious angst. Just too many times during this one that you say to yourself AS IF. Guys fighting in back-to-back MMA fights? Brothers of no true skill or fight fame wind up in the biggest world wide event ever? One of them gets pummelled with hundreds of punches in the face but never a drop of blood and he always manages to win? Please. Comparisons to Rocky are laughable, that movie had heart and was very believable.
