pandoranervosa There are few actors I absolutely MUST see everything they are in. I am more a fan of the characters these actors bring to life. Case in point, in 1985, I discovered, at the age of 15, comics. I have adored the characters of Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Deadpool for a very long time. I loved seeing them come to life, but was not a rabid fan of any of the actors portraying my Marvel faves.This is not the case with Tom Hardy. I explained my recent lifelong fascination with Mr. Hardy as such:Me: Many actors are pretty good some of the time and meh most of the time and some couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. The difference with Mr. Hardy? He BECOMES the paper bag...and does it magnificently.James Delaney is so...determined. In love. Goal-oriented. Revenge-seeking. Good? Some of the time. Evil? Perhaps. He has the capability to love (in different forms), hate, manipulate, multi-task and no matter how inebriated, plan ahead like no other.He also has a flare for extreme violence.For these reasons, and equally the fact that the East India Company is a character in itself, is why I think Taboo is one of the most brilliant bit of television to come along in a while.Addendum: James reminds me of Alfie Solomons (partially due to being written by the same author), but despite their similarities, and despite that at times, their actions are similar, the two men are as different as night and day in intention, temperament and goals.Well done, Mr. Hardy. You have made this planetary geologist and her cosmologist husband life-long fans. Thank you for sharing your talent with the rest of us.

rudigerkleinmanagement I loved this series. It's stylish, refreshing filmmaking and a great example of how television mini series can be better than cinema. The look of this series is like no other. The filmmakers take advantage of all that today's technology has to offer without letting it get in the way of the story.It's also an interesting exercise in period filmmaking. It goes in a very bold direction, quite unlike most costume dramas the Brit's are known for. It also shows what you can be done when the filmmakers are in control, instead of a bunch Hollywood studio idiots imposing their dumb ideas and "audience testing" bullshit on the creatives. Hooray for Tom Hardy. Please sir, could I have some more?
