ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
shine67 A rom-com with fun 80s songs. What a fantastic idea! Too bad this happened.Subpar directing, a wholly tired and clichéd plot, acting on par with a first year community college class, average looking unknown cast (yes, looks aren't that important, but when the film has so little going for it, every bit helps) and unpleasant singing that removes the fun from what should be awesomely cheesy and joyful 80s songs.I was home sick today and watched this because I thought it would be a light "nothing" of a movie. I won't make a joke about it "making me even more sick" or "helping to induce sleep," because all this movie really did was too wimpy to achieve even those goals. You might flip the channel and catch 5 minutes of this and think, "oh, this could be fun." It isn't.
Nikita Wannenburgh Walking on Sunshine was Mamma Mia! the Movie without the good actors, good music and good script. In fact, it only reminded me of Mamma Mia! the Movie because there was sun, surf, sand, and plenty of skin shown. (And in case you're interested, one of the differences was that this film had the "occasional" tomato too......) The cheese is so plentiful in this film it's literally dripping off the disc. In addition, it has stereotypical characters, clichés and *yawn* predictability, not to mention that the deepest part of the film is the sea (which, by the way, looks like it belongs in a Hannah Montana movie). There's a feel-good soundtrack and dancing that never quite gets on point, and – unfortunately – is heavy and weighed-down; failing the movie when it's supposed to give a light-hearted, frothy feeling. One more thing. The beach dudes in this film all look like they're gay. Seriously, I kid you not. When you watch this movie – and I don't recommend that - just take a look at their dancing, their clothes, and when they emerge in slow-motion from the waves. It's disturbing. ONE more thing. I love musicals, and I love singing. So I wasn't prepared to hate this film. BUT...if you want to watch a feel-good musical, watch Mamma Mia! the Movie; the cast make it worthwhile. And if you're looking for depth, watch The Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables.
jvanderwalt5 This was such a big let down.I was hoping for something along the way of "Mamma MIA",and "Rock of ages" but no it was a huge mess. The movie starts awesome the opening song was good and it looked promising it went on and when it came to the second song things started to fall flat. But after the song things picked up again until 30min into the movie. And then things went down hillcompletly. The songs didn't fit with the story it looked like they must picked songs and sung it between every 5 min.I had such i hopes for this movie but it turned out to be a huge f up.Further a rarely give movies a 1 bc even if a movie is bad there's always something that can push the number hp to at least a 3 but this movie had none i thought that the music would make up for it but even that did t help. AND who makes a musical movie with Leona Lewis and not even giving her a full song This movie BLOWS i am very disappointed.
Fred Morgan Watchable... Nice settings, photography. Songs was best of overplayed Radio songs of the 80's. However... this film reminded me of a "The Asylum" film studio production of an attempt capitalize on the Video sales of "Momma Mia"! The problem is it is not an Asylum Film's production. What is missing from this modern nostalgia musical was the 'Major Actors' which the audience could immediate identify with. I felt as if some kids got together and said.. "Ha, we can do that and we don't even have to hire FAMOUS actors"... the attempt failed. As for why "Momma Mia" works and this musicals fails is, I guess it is easy to forgive "James Bond" or "Karen Silkwood" for not having the any musical ability or voice. It's not so easy to forgive basically "unknowns" actors for destroying the songs we have heard so often. I can not say "Songs we Love"... this may also be a bit of the problem. Though the songs were 'Radio Play' hits... the songs lack the cohesion of being by one "Group" like Abba in MM. A few songs I loved, but some I actually hated having to hear again and even cringed at hearing song so off key.All is not lost, as stated, it is a watchable movie. Musicals seldom are box office draws. I must really applaud even this attempt which is better than many NEW Musicals.
