Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
Caryl It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Allissa .Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
a-cady There were clean color schemes. They were so clear and clean. A great 1960 romance film with someone being reported of stealing something. The one scene that is very realistic showing verisimilitude was the beach scene where the Grace Kelly character sort of peeks out of the pool to speak with the woman on the wooden dock.
Tweekums John Robie, an American living on the French Riviera, is in a spot of bother. Before the war he was an infamous jewel thief, known as 'The Cat' but after serving in the resistance he has been allowed to live in peace… that is until somebody starts committing near identical robberies. The police and his former associates, who are trying to go straight, believe he has returned to his old ways while he protests his innocence. To prove his innocence he meets with insurance agent H. H. Hughson and comes up with an unusual proposition; if Hughson gives him a list of his wealthy clients and the value of the jewellery he will figure out who the 'New Cat' will strike against… of course if Robie has returned to his old life such a list would be invaluable. He soon picks a name on the list, a wealthy American woman, and goes about befriending her and her beautiful daughter Frances. Inevitably he grows close to Frances but there are a couple of complications; Danielle Foussard, the daughter of an old friend, is flirting with him and Frances soon figures out who he really is.This is one of Hitchcock's lighter films; it may be set against a background of crime but it is still a romance at heart. Cary Grant does a fine job as Robie, he may be rather old compared to his female co-stars but not to such a degree that it any relationship seems unbelievable… especially as he is posing as a wealthy man. Grace Kelly is fun as Danielle; beautiful but with a dangerous streak and Brigitte Auber brings a different sort of sexiness to the role of Danielle. We are also treated to fine performances from John Williams as Hughson and Jessie Royce Landis as Danielle's mother. There are plenty of amusing moments and a few twists and turns before the identity of the thief is exposed in a thrilling roof-top finale. We are also treated to frequent views of the beautiful scenery of the Riviera. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to anybody wanting a film with a bit of mystery, a bit of action, lots of great scenery, a good looking cast, a little romance and a decent number of laughs; all without anything that could be considered offensive.
Filipe Neto This is probably one of the lightest films in the vast work of Alfred Hitchcock, since he doesn't follow the usual path of police thriller, preferring a closer approach to romantic comedy. Basically, it tells the story of a retired jewelry thief trying to unmask an imitator by approaching a potential victim, by which he falls in love. The main roles are secured by Cary Grant and Grace Kelly (this film surely helped her to personally meet her future husband, Rainier III of Monaco, where the film was partially shot), two of the most attractive actors of that time. Both made very satisfying and enjoyable performances, with some good chemistry based on their charm, full of word games, looks and smiles. The environment also helps, capturing the most romantic side of the Riviera with a very smooth and pleasant cinematography. Slowly, the audience almost forgets what led that man to meet that girl, but the quality of the director never lets the romantic plot dissociate itself from the police mystery that originated it. The film also gives us some light comedy moments, made to smile more than to laugh out loud. So this is an elegant film, atypical in the work of this director, but with a good romance sprinkled with soft mystery, in an exercise of good taste.
Desertman84 Cary Grant and Grace Kelly stars in this Alfred Hitchcock classic about a retired cat burglar who is being set up by a jewel thief who is at large on the Riviera.Jessie Royce Landis,John Williams,Charles Vanel and Brigitte Auber co-star in this 1955 classic. There is a jewel thief that is at large on the Riviera and all the evidence of his/her crime points to a retired cat burglar John Robie as his ways of burglary are being copied.Robie, who was able to escape the law, pleads innocence and has decided to find out who is behind all this new crime wave that has been happening. With the aid of a reluctant detective H. H. Hughson, they decide to monitor bejeweled wealthy vacationers to find out the identity of the jewel thief. No question that this has become a landmark film in Hollywood being the last film of Grace Kelly, who gave up her acting career to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco and decided to go into philanthropy works thereafter.Aside from that, fans are treated into a comedic and enjoyable film wherein the viewers are charmed no end by the good looks of both Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. In addition to that,we are also treated to a lightweight Hitchcock film considering as the story was told in a relaxed mood as compared to most of his films.Overall,it was an fun film to watch.
