Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
lorcan-61881 Thirteen is a 2003 drama that stars Holly Hunter and follows her coping as a mother to maintain the new and disrespectful personality of her daughter after entering into the wrong friend zone, filled with sex, petty crime and drugs. Thirteen sounded like a enjoyable watch at the time and when i finally watched my DVD, I was slowly more and more hooked to the reality on the screen, although, me being a teenager, knows that the style in this movie as CRINGY AS HELL, this film is so true and has happened before and is still happening all over the world, kids have a dream to be someone they don't even know themselves so they can be accepted in life only to be let down more then they already were, I have actually seen it before and experienced it a couple of times myself, the acting, dialogue and pace is so well done and actors like Holly Hunter, Jeremy Sisto and Nikki Reed totally steal the sha. It's just so painful and shocking to think that a sweet girl like the main girl in the film can actually change that much into a disrespectful, punk, foul mouth attituded teenager. Thirteen is a very educational film for parents who think they're children are acting like they never did before. 10/10! Ps. I'm back!!
Niaz Islam Arif I was totally fooled by the rating, I genuinely don't get how this film have such a high rating. I have watched many teenager movies but none of them failed to portrait the teenager life as badly as this movie. The script was ridiculous, as a result the screenplay turned to be a complete disaster. There was no character build ups, no strong background story. Things were simply happening without much context.Hand-held camera or hand-held shooting is an art. What the cameramen did in this film is simply shaky camera work there was nothing artsy about it. Frankly the camera work bothered me a lot. Lastly the acting seemed very amateur to me. Authentic acting is one thing but it was pure amateur work altogether. I could not find any single aspect of this film that I might like. Not worth your time.NOT RECOMMENDED.
ComedyFan2010 In this teenage movie we see Tracy (Evan Rachel Wood) trying to be popular by becoming friends with Evie (Nikki Reed) who is a bad influence on her life. Many criticize it for being too unrealistic and I absolutely disagree with this. My life was not like that when I was 13, and yet I know many who went that way around that age. What they do is nothing so extreme (besides maybe cutting) that is unthinkable for teenagers to do and we should remember that it took a whole school semester for all this to happen. It is not shocking as in surprising that it happens, it is just could be shocking because even though one knows it happens it is still hard to see someone that young going through it. I didn't really feel like that simply because the girls seem way older than 13.I was not to impressed with young actresses. I liked the story but their performance on the other hand was exaggerated. I also had trouble feeling the exact nature of their friendship. Was there genuine liking or they were just both trying to use each other. On the other hand Holly Hunter was absolutely perfect in her role. I also liked Jeremy Sisto who was performing her boyfriend. Both had great performance and dynamics. It was great to see Hunter's character Mel trying to deal with her daughter. The movie is also very fast paced and energetic. Great camera work. Absolutely loved the ending. very powerful and top notch performances. So all in all a good movie with some weaknesses.
Danii Disaster I don't know why this movie has gotten so many positive reviews. Thank God I didn't pay to watch it. I found a DVD in a hotel room, and, since there was nothing better to do at the time, decided to watch it. It's not very good to say the least. In fact, one of the worst teen movies I have seen -- and I've seen PLENTY. THE PLOT:Can be summarized in one sentence: A supposedly "good" teen mixes with the "wrong" crowd and gets in trouble. We have seen this before dozens of times, but this has to be the worst attempt at rehashing an already overused storyline. Nothing original here, except - they are trying TOO hard to shock the viewer, but end up with a totally unconvincing, dull and over-acted excuse for a movie. Annoying to some extent, but mostly boring, uncool and predictable. CHARACTERS: Character development is non-existent. You know nothing about these people, except that they're trailer trash. The lead actress is obnoxious. You can't relate to her, and feel no sympathy for her at any given moment. She has no personality whatsoever. There is no way the "popular girl" (Evie) could pass for a teenager. It was ridiculous to cast her as a 13-year-old. She'll be hard-pressed to pass for an 18-year-old, let alone 13. The acting is not great. The characters are one-dimensional, and many of them are trying too hard (over-acting). THE MESSAGE: I'm not sure I understand the point of this movie. What is the message? If I understand correctly, the message is... if you want to fit in with the popular kids, you must:(1) Dress like a cheap prostitute. (2) Sleep with every guy at school + hit on everything that moves (male, female, old, young, ugly... whatever). (3) Pretend to be bisexual. (4) Use drugs. (5) Engage in some form of self-mutilation. (6) Get as many piercings as possible.(7) Steal from your family, friends, shops, etc. (8) Genuinely despise your loved ones. (9) Dispose of your old friends when they no longer benefit you. (10) Have no ambition in life other than partying. TO SUMMARIZE I don't know what could possibly be appealing about movie. It was supposed to be shocking and realistic, but it fails miserably at both. Are they trying to say that this is what a typical teenager is like? Or supposed to be like? Well... I really doubt it. This movie is about retarded inbred underage whores, not typical teenagers. The whole movie is boring, predictable, stupid and badly acted, but the ending takes the biscuit - it's totally incoherent and makes zero sense. I wouldn't watch this crap again; not even if they paid me to.
