Exoticalot People are voting emotionally.
Console best movie i've ever seen.
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Mr-Fusion A lot of the charm in "The Secret of My Success" is on its cheesiness; not just the logical stretches in the story, but also in tits unashamedly '80s-ness (the songs, the fashions, the sitcom synth). All of this is just fine by me, but you do have to be willing to just go with it.Everything here rests on the shoulders of Michael J. Fox, trying to make it big from the bottom rung. His charade (wearing 100 hats at once) is where the movie pushes it, but it's also where he shines. His physical comedy is tip-top and he has the boyish charm to pull it off. The first boardroom scene (for me) is the movie's funniest; Fox is run ragged, the abuse that Davis takes is hilarious, everything's working in harmony. It's not until Mercedes Ruehl shows up later in a bit part that the movie is really funny . . . but it's still an enjoyable movie regardless. And just try to imagine this with someone else in the lead. Can't be done, I say.6/10
signass68 Great 80's movie with a fantastic soundtrack! MJF carries the picture. He combines physical comedy with great one-liners. "I hate MEN"-Christy, "I'm glad I'm not one" - Brantley LOL I use that line to this day.Really wish stories today were this simple and easy to roll with.Fun movie for any MJF fan.watch closely. Keep an eye out for Cindy Crawford.Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Foster? Yikes that would have been awful. Many scenes showing the WTC. Sad but in '87 it was a fixture in the NYC. skyline.Helen Slater(Supergirl) is actually very good as Foster's love interest.Watch this at home on a Saturday night with your spouse with jiffy pop. Fun movie.
Tim Kidner Michael J Fox is always a bit of fun and this comedy is no different. However, it hasn't dated as well as it could have but the biggest fault is that Fox doesn't suit all the scenarios that well. He's supposed to be 24, but looks ten years younger. Whilst that's fine when he's the Kansas dreamer and an office junior - even when he's being seduced by the dragon that is 'Aunt' Vera Prescott (Margaret Whitton), but he looks faintly ridiculous when chasing and finally winning the sophisticated executive played by Helen Slater.Michael J is still a dervish of frantic activity and there are some priceless comic moments with Vera. Her husband (Richard Jordan) is slimy and devious and nasty enough to be the controlling big boss. And, of course there's the overall upbeat message about fulfilling one's dreams - if you work hard enough and get the lucky breaks. The movie still says a lot about the '80s boom'n'bust era and the corporate rat-race and there's some great views of New York City. I had seen this movie about ten years ago but it just doesn't quite do 'it' for me now. Hard to put a finger on why so I'm just going to have to blame the scenes with Helen Slater as that's the most obvious fault, to me.Lovers of Michael J however will always love this film and I appreciate that, but for me, it doesn't quite work.
TBJCSKCNRRQTreviews This happened to be on TV, and whenever I get a chance to watch something that I have *never* heard of before for free, I sometimes give it a chance, since there are countless undiscovered gems out there that, for example, marketing people don't know how to sell to the masses. Well, it isn't one. It's plain as they come. They made plenty of flicks in the 80's(with the music of the period, for better or for worse) dealing with stocks, suits and big money, and the reason I had no idea this particular one existed is most likely that it does nothing to stand out from this pile. If you can't see where this is going from the very beginning, this must be your first exposure to a romantic comedy about someone starting at the bottom. There are a few good jokes and gags, but the majority just aren't anything special, and this really did not make me laugh an awful lot. The humor includes sit-com-like "miscommunications" and such. Fox, in spite of looking surprisingly metro at times, is what makes this watchable. The acting is fine. Characters, script, editing, cinematography, all are about average, with no real surprises. There is a little vague sexuality(and some of it may disturb viewers) in this. I recommend this to big fans of Michael J. and the decade it was made. 6/10
