Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Loui Blair It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Paul Magne Haakonsen I found this movie on Netflix and saw that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was in it, and that was more than enough of a sales pitch to make me sit down and watch "The Resident".I have to admit that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was amazing in this movie and he really carried the movie quite nicely. Hillary Swank is certainly not among my most favorite of actresses, and she wasn't outstanding in this movie. Too bad that Christopher Lee wasn't given a bigger role in the movie, because he always brings something unique to the movies he was in.The Max character was just genuinely disturbed and creepy, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan was really nicely cast for this role. The storyline in "The Resident" was quite good and captivating, which made for some adequate entertainment. While "The Resident" is indeed and entertaining movie, then it is hardly the type of movie that has enough contents in its storyline and plot to support more than a single viewing.
liotzo Personally i liked it very much. A movie that kept me guessing.
xcitenlady When I see stars who stole the world's attention in past years with movie's like (Million Dollar Baby and Black Dahlia) and they take a role in a TV movie, means only one thing...you are a "has been" taking anything in hopes of a career revival. And this movie if full of nothing but disbelief for the things that happen. The movie shows close ups of her and her body (I guess she paid a lot to keep it from looking like it did in the past, a little man like in the jowl) and I must admit she looks so much better now.I had to see what year this movie was made since I had not seen it before. Surprisingly its 2011. But she should have known what goes around comes around. She won an Oscar and thanked everyone except her husband. Later apologized and then left him for her manager. I think this movie's success is poetic justice.
davek28 It's not great from a plot point of view, but in terms of production quality it's very impressive. The cinematography and lighting are superb, and there are some nifty camera angles if you keep your eyes open to spot them. The NY locations are terrific, but I don't understand what was filmed in New Mexico (or why). Also, the music is very discordant Hammer Horror style. I guess the problem is that I was listening to the superb soundtrack, and admiring the direction and lighting, instead of getting involved in the actual narrative. Ms Swank looks good, of course, but all the pluses are great on their own terms without gelling together into an entertaining movie. It's predictable, yes, but it still makes a pretty good 'B' feature.
