ShangLuda Admirable film.
Dotbankey A lot of fun.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Roxie The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Platypuschow Though the first movie was hardly spectacular it was original and certainly memorable. It told the story of a group of friends who went on a road trip to various "Halloween horror houses". Basically horror attractions, which really do exist and I find fascinating.Their adventure ended badly last time but here they have picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and are doing it again.Now last time it was a successful slow build, this time it's a very slow build with no real payoff. What I mean by that is the movie is presented in a documentary form and remains like that for 9/10 of the film so very little actually happens. If you're interested in these horror haunts however you'll have a blast as they are the real thing including the Zombie Pub Crawl and Zombie Run which are annual events.The movie does have a fantastic twist but I think it was handled very poorly. Top that off with the distinct lack of actual movie content and I found this to be a huge let down. I went in with expectations and they simply weren't met.Once again it has a real charm and is very original, but just doesn't entertain like it should have. I'd love to see a third and final part to meet its potential and finish the story.The Good:Great ideaVery originalThe Bad:Some weird cinematography choicesThe behaviour of the characters is simply not believableMore a faux documentary than an actual movieThings I Learnt From This Movie:I'd love to do a roadtrip of these things!
GL84 Having survived their previous encounter, the group goes out once again to document haunted houses in order to deal with the trauma only for signs of their previous tortures to show up and get drawn into another terrifying battle with the deranged psychopathsOn the whole, this was quite the decent and enjoyable follow-up. One of the better aspects of this one is the way in which this one goes for a slightly more normalized take on the haunted houses they tour. The first half of this one features them touring the different attractions, from the problem-solving experience that features an intriguing experience, the later showing in the house with all the distorted walls and decorations which has a full-on psychedelic experience and the interactive attraction with the bleeding victims has quite a lot of fun to it with the different activities featured throughout. Their experience on the hayride has some more fun to be had with the different interactions featured here, while the highlight is the scenes of them at the pub-crawl which features the walk-through of the festival to the different zombies around them and the big food-eating contest that has a fun sense about it. That is the main part of this one, where it has plenty of fun with them in the different attractions looking at the creepy settings and decorations as well as the objectives required for those different rides. The antics in the final house, where it turns out to be about the group getting trapped with the deranged settings once again manages to have an eerie air to it as it forces a repetition of the setup from last time while adding some terrifying encounters that are exceptionally graphic. While these make it work, this one has some pretty big flaws present. The most egregious effort here is the fact that this one just doesn't seem in the slightest bit interested in getting them to the main house this time as their exploits are built more on exploring the different houses which takes up a ton of time throughout here. It doesn't have much to do with them in the house at all and doesn't even introduce the tormentors until well over an hour has played out which doesn't really generate the kind of scares consistent with the pacing for much of the overall running time. That lack of interaction makes them seem far less interesting this time around as it doesn't really provide this one with the main threat this time around and tends to make it feel duller than anything as it plays more like watching home videos of people on these rides rather than anything else which is far less interesting. That also makes what happens at the end all the more confusing since none of it really matters at all and their actions toward the group make no sense as it just comes off like torture with no buildup or purpose and really defeats the purpose of their actions. That, in a sense, really lowers this one significantly.Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.
BayouBabylon Unlike a lot of horror fans, I liked the first The Houses October Built. I liked seeing the backwoods, indie haunts and I thought it was a creative idea to weave a plot into what was, basically, just a Haunted House Road Trip.This one just seems like a way for the filmmakers to get paid to go on another Haunted House road trip, only with a much more flimsy and boring plot.Unfortunately, the places they visit are even more boring than in the first film because of a very weak premise involving one of the main characters. The events look fun enough, but far from scary, even in person, much less on film.I gave this movie 4 stars because I like seeing indie haunts from across the country. Also, in general, I like the premise of seeking the extreme, or seeking forbidden knowledge, then being rewarded with more than you bargained for.
Callam_10 Not worthy of a one star, 0* is my true vote but IMDb won't let me do that.Where to start with this piece of trash. I was actually looking forward to this so i decided to watch it last night, fell asleep about half an hour in, decided to come back to it tonight, literally didn't interest me a single bit, was browsing the web, messaging my girlfriend, playing an online casino thing, anything to drown that movie out. I got 52 minutes in before i said forget it i ain't wasting any more time on this . Everyone who had any part of this abomination should leave the industry completely. I've seen bad horror movies, but at least they have something going for it. This movie is as bland as water, in fact i'd rather sit and watch a cup of water for 2 hours than this garbage. People are delusional to have made this a 4.6*. One of the worst movies i've ever seen, so boring, uninteresting, uninspired. It's a cluster of annoying and disappointing, stay away. Stay well away. Consider this me doing you favour
