Pluskylang Great Film overall
BeSummers Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
Married Baby Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Mr-Fusion "The Chase" doesn't have much depth or surprises, but it does have some good car chases. In that respect, it's pretty aptly named. And when the tires are screaming, it's a pretty good time; the whip-pan shots and L.A. punk soundtrack keep things moving and the humor during these scenes works. It's when we hit cruising speed on the freeway that the drink just starts to settle; You know from the get-go that Charlie Sheen's not really a bad guy, he's just a hard-luck case; and you know early on that he and Kristy Swanson are gonna bang, even though their relationship development is insane (not to mention that sex scene). It's not bad, but it's Sheen's street-tearing desperation that really works, not the emotional stuff.6/10
FlashCallahan Jackson "Jack" Hammond is sentenced to 25 years in prison for armed robbery, although he claims to be innocent, but manages to escape on the way to Mexico. To get away from the police while at a convenience store, he takes a girl as hostage California heiress Natalie, and drives off in her car. She happens to be the daughter of billionaire Dalton Voss, one of the richest men in the state. In a while the car chase is quickly being broadcast live on every TV-channel, covering the event from helicopters, the backseat of a police car, the pavement of the highway etc.....Back in the early nineties, before he went off the rails, and changed his name to Charles, Sheen made some very strange, but inspired movies. This was one of the last of those movies, and it's fun, but when you watch it, you understand why this is one of those movies that rarely pops up on TV, and never really mentioned in movie talk. It's almost like the nice little sister to Natural Born Killers, the media coverage is ride here, and thus turning the whole proceedings way over the top. And I guarantee when you see this movie you will think of the O.J Simpson facade that was all over TV.With great support from Swanson, Rollins, and a couple of the Chillis, The Chase is basically a parody that works, but was cruelly overlooked when released back in 1994.Well worth seeking out though.
Sandcooler If you're a fan of completely brainless action, Adam Rifkin is your kind of guy. He could be the most brainless director on the face of the planet, and I for one applaud him for that reason. Don't bother him with details like plot or coherence, he's really more of a "let's randomly have corpses crash into a windshield" type of guy. This movie is pretty much "Speed" with a sense of humour, it's a lot of fun and the lack of any real creative story lines is very well-concealed. Furthermore, Charlie Sheen is actually pretty good in it. He genuinely comes of as a very sympathetic and misunderstood protagonist, which is pretty impressive when you're actually Charlie freakin' Sheen. The ending is also very satisfying, it's predictable but in an excellent way. One last thing: Anthony Kiedis and Flea are in this too, which is just fascinatingly bizarre. Very enjoyable flick.
addvictim29 I'm giving it 8 stars for reasons other than Kristy Swanson. Yes, obviously this movie isn't a masterpiece nor was it made to be. It was made to be a fun action movie that wouldn't disappoint. I watch this movie ALL the time and it never gets old (premium channels seem to LOVE it). The plot is so simple that it leaves so much room for climax and twists...if that makes any sense. I mean, how could you go wrong with Ron Jeremy filming news coverage of Charlie Sheen being chased down by Henry Rollins and the Red Hot Chili Peppers while falling in love with Buffy the Vampire Slayer at 120 mph?! You can't. This one's a classic in my book (which also includes Weekend at Bernie's, Home Alone, and Bandits).
