Reptileenbu Did you people see the same film I saw?
Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
gir-24 In every damn scene, in every location, even miles under the freaking sea, it looks stupid and is really distracting because all I could think about was that Bette Midler song from Beaches and the line "To never have sunlight on your face" which if in an alternate universe was part of the Sky Craptain soundtrack would be rewritten as "To ALWAYS have sunlight on your face". Now Beaches despite it being overrated by so many is relatively good and worth watching maybe once but I can't say the same for Sky Craptain and the World of Tomorrow. It is pure garbage of the smelliest kind. Avoid, it will give you eye cancer... and nose cancer.
speakers When this film was released, it used the best available CGI. The 'special' effects are now out-matched by modern consoles, so the film has to stand on it's plot and acting. Well, the plot is a by-the-numbers Saturday afternoon B-movie, full of dastardly enemies, evil robots, stoic heroes and damsels, some of whom are even in distress. The problem with the plotting is that sometimes the decisions that characters make are so astonishingly stupid, you want to scream; for example, Polly hides two vials in her pocket that she gets from a dying scientist. Why, what is she going to do with them? She's a reporter, not a biologist. But that is nothing compared to the acting. Jude Law does a good dashing hero, Angelina Jolie has an excellent cameo, but the real fly in the ointment is Gwyneth Paltrow, whose acting seems to consist of being shrill and irritating, although, to be fair, she is not best served by the execrable lines she's been given. Sadly, the effect is that you end up utterly disliking her character. And there is no sexual tension between the leads at all. Michael Gambon is wasted, but in general, you feel that all the actors had a really hard time in their virtual environment, wildly overplaying everything.Don't expect too much, definitely don't analyse the plot and you may enjoy it.
robinski34 The opening credits of Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow promise exactly what the film delivers, a ripping yarn in the mold of Flash Gordon and Buck Rodgers, with all the suspension of disbelief that those matinée serials required of the viewer. The PG rating is the tell-tale that you should not expect plotting of Nolanian complexity, this is a kids' film, and if you treat it like that, it's good fun. There is the odd gaping plot hole, but there are also some nice touches, like the appearance of Laurence Olivier and a certain recurring camera device for example, which help counteract the patchiness of the jeopardy. If you can accept occasional failings such as the yawning chasm in the lack of resolution of the research subject scene, this can be an enjoyable romp with a watchable cast.
tbahri-380-572824 Simply awful, what has started as a very promising movie with some nice new sic-fi ideas ended up as one of those Cheeseburger/Cowboy movies, full of clichés and non-logical events, dialog (oh specially that one, it simply can't get worse) and even story, that can't be considered Sci-Fi, it is a cheeseburger rubbish. The super cowboy who is super self confident and super brave and super "in control" who is also supposed to be super funny is - again - saving the world, of course while saving his own girl who is also super confident, super smart, super funny, and she is fighting entire armies without even breaking her high heals shoes !!! amazing ... keep on that Hollywood ... another 1 out of 10 movie, just because zero is not available.
