Noutions Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Lela The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
FountainPen Everything is wrong in this abysmal effort, starting with a ridiculously smartass, juvenile "Holmes". The high ratings must be from cast/crew members/friends/associates. I noted that one, rating the film 10/10, came from someone who has rated only two films here on IMdB. 1/10 for this gross insult to the Holmes genre. Avoid it. #
Armand not memorable, not good or bad. only a form of amusement who use parts from Conan Doyle 's work for an easy game. the result is predictable, the story is fragile, the acting not special but decent. a film about Sherlock Holmes who has not revelations, new ideas or ambition to be an event. only entertainment without any complication. and that purpose is the best virtue. because the script or the cast are far to do a special movie about the legendary detective but are magnificent choice for a not complicated exercise to remind Holmes and Watson. and that could be a good point in the war of adaptations. because it is that kind of film who reminds the comfort of an evening after a long and hard work day.
carflo I have seen quite a few low budget scifi/horror movies lately and about the highest rating I gave any of them was a 3, but this Sherlock Holmes was good, very good. I had never seen or heard of any of the actors, but they were all also very good, especially Watson who did a fine job. Holmes was as usual, quirky and arrogant, but then, that's how he is supposed to be. The sets and settings were very nice and most of the outdoor scenes were beautiful. But the best were the special effects: the monsters and the Rube Goldberg machines. My husband like the dragon best, but as a dinosaur fan, my favorite was the so called raptor. I say 'so called' because it did not look at all like a raptor, but it did look like a beautifully done miniature T-Rex. We both liked all of the Rube Goldberg machinery used by the master criminal. If you get a chance, watch this Sherlock Holmes. You'll probably like it like we did.
steven_hill I would compare this movie to pond scum, if not for the fact that it would be an insult to pond scum. The acting is terrible, and - worse - the plot is nonsensical. Silly plot points are particularly troubling for a Sherlock Homes film, as the stories typically rely on intellectual consistency and insights. The fact that this film involves monsters and the White Chapel murders means it's not even suitable for children. As such, it's difficult to imagine how production was ever financed. A rich relative or generous government subsidies, perhaps? Ben Snyder's take on Sherlock Holmes is insipid ... but he certainly isn't helped by the stiff dialog.
