Reviews

XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Jenna Walter The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Mihai Toma After losing his beloved to a group of fierce pirates, Will the blacksmith teams up with a notorious pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, for an attempt of rescuing her. Unknown facts will come to life and soon both will find out that there's more to each other than they would have imagined. It's an adventure full of action, suspense but also laughter, which introduces the now famous Jack Sparrow and his pirate deeds, especially regarding the young blacksmith. Their journey will prove to be full of unpredictable, for better or worse, but it will always be accompanied by tons of jokes, puns and funny moments. It features a couple of great and well described characters which do a really good job in maintaining a very enjoyable tale set at sea. Together with a good plot, they end up making a pretty impressive movie. Add into the equation a couple of great actors and some great special effects and you end up with this great achievement. What I enjoyed mostly about this film, besides its catchy atmosphere, is its comical side. It manages to be very good, in moments when you least expect it, without seeming to forced or desperate about it. It kept me interested till the end, especially due to its lack of predictability, thus it managed to be a very good movie. I have to note that I wasn't impressed by the plot. Although good, it wasn't something that will blow your mind or something. A little bit of polish could have made this one a true masterpiece.
adonis98-743-186503 Blacksmith Will Turner teams up with eccentric pirate "Captain" Jack Sparrow to save his love, the governor's daughter, from Jack's former pirate allies, who are now undead. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl boasts one of Johnny Depp's best perfomances but also a terrific blend of comedy, action and special effects and makes Pirates just cool also Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa is perhaps his best perfomance ever and Keira and Orlando have a very good chemistry together as a whole. Definitely a great and fun adventure. (10/10)
simpsonguy27 This swashbuckling adventure movie, simply put, blew me away. I had seen it multiple times as a child and I liked it then. But now that I'm an adult, I love it. When I watched it when I was younger, I mainly just viewed it as a mindless action movie with pirates in it. Now I understand it a lot better, with the treasure /curse being the focal point of the movie. This aspect of it drives the movie forward, while also having some fantastic action sequences inter-spliced throughout. The pacing of it was great, in a similar regard. Also let's not dismiss the acting here. They brought in some heavy hitters...Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush,...and they ALL hit it out of the park. The crew of this film also did an amazing job, having good time-appropriate costumes and the effects were decent, given when it was made.Overall, the first Pirates is a great way to spend two and a half hours. It might seem like a long running time, but it does not drag at all, as each minute is filled with cinematic bliss.
joshfedderson Disney made a truly amazing story when they came out with the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, I remember going to the theater and watching it for the first time with my parents and loving it. Now I am a true pirates fan and love the series. It was our first introduction to the famous pirate Captain Jack Sparrow and his behavior. It also introduced Will and Elizabeth the two iconic lovers in the series. The story is about a young man who falls in love with a young woman and their paths cross with swashbuckling pirates. The story was good about the cursed ship and it's crew and the cursed treasure. This beautiful story has brought on four other movies and has a great legacy. Nothing can beat the original Pirates of the Caribbean. I am watching all of them right up to the new fifth installment. The Pirates life for me.10/10 for Disney's first Pirates.
