AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
silvan-desouza David Dhawan is known for making copies of Hollywood films, Kyo Kii main Jhuth Nahin Bolta(Liar Liar), hum Kisise Kum nahin(Analyse This), Chor Machaiye Shor(Blue Streak). Partner is a copy of HITCH(2005), strangely even JAANEMAN had copied a concept from this film. The film has typical loud comedy as DD mostly makes he adds his own formula too to the remake and there are some scenes which are too overdone. The start 45 minutes are very boring, especially the lengthy rocket scene which is too amateurish, but the scenes when Salman tries to bring Katrina in Govinda's life is funny at times though mostly copied from HITCH. Salman's love angle with Lara however doesn't really work, even the Chota DON part gets irritating. The producer being Sohail Khan, gives Salman Khan much unneeded footage then required. The second half gets even more overbearing especially when added subplots, drama is brought in however the last 5 mins are funny though it does get lengthyDirection by DD is good in parts Music is good, the songs are trendy Salman Khan does his now by famous hamming and does have a few funny scenes but there is nothing unique, he irritates a lot with his winny and nasal tone at times. Lara Dutta is okay Govinda steals the show and is superb, he has done a similar act in Deewana Mastana however he does get too loud at times Katrina with a dubbed voice is plastic as ever Rajpal Yadav is funny though his role seems trying to recreate Papoo Pager from Deewana Mastana, however it stands out like a sore thumb Ali haji is funny however his character does get overbearing at times Dalip Tahil is okay
outlawscribe Okay, so it's not the GREATEST Bollywood movie, and sure the plot has been lifted - I've seen a LOT of lifted plots from Hollywood, including one of "Analyze This". Doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the movie in the least. In fact, as an intense movie fan much like yourselves, I find it interesting to see how the story will play out with a Bollywood twist.Actually, one of my favorite movies is "Bride & Prejudice", a storyline completely and totally lifted from Jane Austen (AND a few movie versions of the same story, here and there), and it was brilliant in my opinion. There isn't a story out there that hasn't already been told in some other way, and instead of being upset that his work was lifted, I would think that the original writer of "Hitch" might see it as "Imitation is the highest form of praise". It means "Hitch" was a good movie and the story was good enough to be used with a dash of curry to spice it up a bit. However, I would have at least given him a credit in the form of a "Inspired by" note in the titles. On that point, everyone is absolutely correct.Plagiarism in the form of completely lifting entire plots and even scenes is indeed pushing it, but I doubt there will be any court hearings over it, as I don't exactly see people passing over "Hitch" in favor of "Partner" in their local video store. However, "Partner" WILL, more than likely, direct viewers to go and do as you all say here - go rent "Hitch" and give it a watch! I take Bollywood in the way it is meant - to entertain, inspire, and teach life lessons so sweetly, even Aristotle couldn't pass it up! Besides, when the heroes are as handsome as Salman Khan, who can help but watch and get addicted?
CAMKG If you look at all of David Dhawan's best entertainers that also worked at the box office - Aankhen, Coolie No.1, Biwi No.1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and now Partner to name a few - the pacing of the films is very crisp. This could also be attributed to the fact that Dhawan was an editor before he became a director. His most entertaining films have the right surface elements - gloss, production values, catchy music and star value. But invariably, they are a good marriage of editing and screenplay. And then the x factor - chemistry of the protagonists on screen and their chemistry with Dhawan during the making. In Partner it is Govinda and Salman Khan who light up the screen.Including Partner, Dhawan has made 38 films as a director - 20 of them have worked at the box office. 17 of those 20 have featured Govinda or Salman Khan. Except for Karisma Kapoor or Sushmita Sen in a few of them, the ladies are mere eye candy in most of them. Partner is a through and through entertainer - start to finish - as a Dhawan film is always meant to be.Yes, the premise of Partner is a straight lift from Hitch and so are a few of the scenes in the film. I have seen both and thoroughly enjoyed both. But you cannot compare the two. The sensibilities, the arc of the individual stories are like apples and oranges. 9 Dhawan films released between 2000 and 2003 - only Jodi No.1 worked. Since then Partner is only his 4th release and his third hit. The one film a year thing is really working for him.Govinda has had a second birth courtesy Salaam-e-Ishq and now Partner. It is surprising that Salman and Govinda have not worked opposite each other earlier. It is so funny that I would conclude this from a frivolous masala entertainer like Parter, but something tells me that David Dhawan will be making some amazing dramas, thrillers and black comedies some years down the road and Govinda and Salman will become phenomenal and iconic character actors 10-15 years from now.
springsunnywinter I just don't know how this stupid, crap, junk, garbage & good for nothing film is a blockbuster. It was so boring with a very, very weak (or no) story-line and wasn't even a jot funny. The film was about 135 minutes of only a paragraph of story about Prem (Salman Khan) is a love guru and is helping hapless & romantic Bhaskar (Govinda) to get the girl he wants. I'm not saying that I didn't like the film because it wasn't funny or anything, I will accept a movie that is not funny but has a decent story. The only two reasons why I can say it's a super-hit are: 1. Salman Khan & Govinda are on-screen together but there first time together was in Salaam e Ishq which was a flop so it can't be. But it was a really good movie.2. Salman Khan's name is Prem and all the films with that name have been a hit including Maine Pyar Kiya. So it's just luck.I heard that it's a remake of Hitch, I've not seen it & I'm glad I didn't. Music is OK the only good songs are Do you want a partner, You're my love & Soni De Nakhre but what is the use of it in a really bad film, that too, if you have someone like Katrina Kaif who dances with two left feet? She is completely crap. Neither she knows acting, language (her voice is always dubbed for her), dance and always fails to impress. I do not like her one bit she was even disappointing in Koffee with Karan. Overall Partner is a disposable film with a disposable actress Katrina Kaif. Its better off that she is kicked out of Bollywood and never comes back again.
