Reviews

Raetsonwe Redundant and unnecessary.
Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
gradyharp So often crime shows seem to be variations of the same theme – good cop/bad cop, drug dealers, collusion with the underground or the powers that be. SHADES OF BLUE is consistently better than all this. And it is refreshing to have a female lead of such importance!Detective Harlee Santos (Jennifer Lopez) is a single mother from New York City, New York. She joins the FBI's anti-corruption task force, while dealing with her own financial problems by bribing officers in order to afford for her daughter Cristina (Sarah Jeffery). She is part of a tightly woven team with the NYPD led by Matt Wozniak (Ray Liotta) and consisting of Detectives Nazario (Drea de Matteo), Loman (Dayo Okeniyi), Tufo (Hampton Fluker) and Espada (Vincent Laresca). The aspect that makes this such a terrific series (in addition to a superlative cast) is the writing, the concept of the focus being of the interaction f the NYPD crew, and the strange events that rise in each episode that add to the togetherness of the team.Other important characters are IA Detective Verco (Dov Davidoff), Mayor elect Julia Ayres (Anna Gunn), Woz's estranged wife Linda (Lolita Davidovich), Woz' gay son Nate (Cameron Scoggins), Love inters James Nava (Gino Anthony Pesi) and more and more. Fast action, well-motivated action, very fine direction and a solid music score help make this one of the better crime shows on television. Let's hope there is a third season.
wowj99 While watching other programs on the channel this show is on, I saw a view previews of this TV show. Now, I thought it was just some basic knock off of the other cop shows out there. You know like "Blue Bloods". I saw Jennifer Lopez was in it (I never was really a fan of her, but didn't know much about her acting). One night I was looking for a show to watch and I thought of "Shades of Blue" and I thought I would give it a shot. I turned it on and watched as the show went on. As the show has been on for 25 minutes or so, I started to really enjoy it. I honestly didn't know how great of an actress, Jennifer Lopez was (And I wanted to see for myself). She is actually a pretty great actress! I think she does a great job acting in this show. The story line is interesting and keeps you tuned in along the run time of the show. Now that I am a fan of the show, I will watch it again and who knows, it may be my next fave show. You never know! I would recommend it to anyone interested or curious to watch it.
fairdry-45294 This show got me in very quickly. It's fast paced and makes you want to keep watching. Lopez & Liotta play there parts very well. If you liked the police drama The Shield then you will enjoy this. I've seen Lopez in a few chick flicks and she played her parts well. This roll is a whole new bad girl part for her, of which I think, she has been very impressive. Liotta plays the part of this Loyal but bad old Detective that you don't get on the wrong side of - Lt Wozniac. So give it a try.
ajb-40090 This show is wrought with police show clichés, stiff acting, and poor, shallow character development. From the beginning, Shades of Blue tries very hard to make every moment of the show tense. In doing so, it ignores any sort of real character development, leaving you with strained, tense situations featuring characters you don't really care about. Jennifer Lopez has a daughter. Ray Liotta is a longtime veteran. They're both crooked cops and liars. They've worked together for a while and have some mysterious personal connection. These are essentially the only core traits of these characters. That's it. There's a cat and mouse game going on between them, but since they're cardboard cut-outs, everything that happens just feels like a waste. Just get to the part where they realize they can't trust each other. All of the secondary characters exist, seemingly, to add minutes to each program. The rookie cop unjustly shoots a guy in the first few minutes, but because the show immediately dumps the viewer into tension and turmoil, there's no build up and you're left feeling nothing for this guy. The only reason anything happens in this universe is to attempt to prop up the two main characters. The rookie shoots the guy so that J-Lo can react, and so that Liotta can react to that. There's no reason to buy in to these characters. The production falls flat as well. Shades of Blue eschews some of the grittiness of, like, The Shield, and instead goes for a clean look and shuttles in the occasional artsy camera angle (shooting characters through mirrors, etc). It feels inauthentic. There's also music, which detracts from most scenes. A pivotal moment of the show feels a whole lot less important with Frank Ocean's voice narrating it at obnoxiously changing volumes. The look and feel of the show often feel like overcompensating for the Swiss cheese plot and the vanilla characters. This show just isn't worth your time.
