Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Stellead Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Salubfoto It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
tuckerconstable-07055 "Neighbors" is quite an odd film. It was Aykord and Belushi's follow up to "The Blues Brothers", but it couldn't be any different from the comedy in that film even if it tried. Where "The Blues Brothers" was strange in places-but easy to laugh at-"Neighbors" comedy comes a place of absurdity most people probably aren't familiar with.John Belushi plays Earl Keese, a straight laced, middle aged man who lives a very orderly and routine life. Sure it's boring, but him and his wife don't seem bothered by it. However, when a very strange couple moves in next door, Earl's life is completely changed in only a matter of 24 hours as he's thrown into a world completely devoid of manners and common decency. Aykroyd and Belushi go completely against character type with Aykroyd playing the party animal and Belushi playing the straight laced one. However, it works surprisingly well and it gives Belushi a chance to show a side of his comedy that wasn't seen very much-dark and strange are the best two words to describe it. In fact the whole film is that-dark and strange-it's never impossible to laugh at, but it's very strange to watch. Probably the reason the film was such a disappointment was because it was marketed as a straight up comedy rather than the dark absurdist piece it really is. That's not to say it's a perfect film, the music is incredibly intrusive and Earl's change of heart towards Vic and Ramona feels a little abrupt. But, for the most part, the film works on a lot of levels. The comedy is very intriguing, the acting is surprisingly good and the overall feel of the film is very unique. It's a film worth seeing, maybe not one that's on repeat, but one that's occasionally put on when you need a bit of dark escapism.
Michael O'Keefe NEIGHBORS is directed by John G. Avildsen and based loosely on a novel by Thomas Berger. This will be John Belushi's last movie before his untimely death. And he gets to share the screen with Saturday Night Live pal Dan Aykroyd.Earl Keese(Belushi)lives a quiet, close to mundane life with his wife, Enid(Kathryn Walker)and their daughter, Elaine(Lauren-Marie Taylor). More or less happy. Earl's whole routine in his quiet and calm neighborhood is in for a major disruption when loud, obnoxious and freeloading Vic(Aykroyd)and his sexpot wife, Ramona(Cathy Moriarty)buy the house next door. Go ahead and accept it; there goes the neighborhood. The Keese family minding their p's and q's, while the suburb disintegrates before their very eyes. Ramona and Vic invite the neighbors over what turns out to be a bizarre dinner date straight from crazy town. Earl will be forced to scheme a way to get rid of the over-the-top couple. The movie lingers on and begins to peter-out! Belushi didn't seem to be 100% Belushi. Aykrod dyed-blonde? But Miss Moriarty made the best of her movie debut...Wow! Also in the cast: Igors Gavin and Dru-Ann Chuckran. A couple of great tunes were featured: "Hello, I Love You" by The Doors and "Stayin' Alive" by The Bee Gees.
ersinkdotcom An eccentric young couple (Dan Aykroyd and Cathy Moriarity) move in next door to a reserved man (John Belushi) and his wife's (Kathryn Walker) residence. It's evident from the start that these two misfits are out of place in the cul-de-sacs of the suburbs. As the night progresses, things get more and more zany and out of control.Whether John G. Avildsen's cinematic adaptation of Thomas Berger's best- selling novel "Neighbors" is cinematic gold is still up for debate 33 years later. Some call it an uneven comedic misfire. Others would claim it to be a foreshadowing of the darkly and quirky genius that would become a popular and respectable sub-genre thanks to Tim Burton's rise to fame a few years later.Although "Neighbors" has Belushi and Aykroyd successfully switching roles, it's still a perfect example of the charisma the two had when they paired up together. Belushi would usually play crazy to Aykroyd's straight man. However, the two decided to switch parts at the beginning of production for this film. It gives the movie a unique spin that sets it apart from all the other team –ups the two engaged in.One thing "Neighbors" does well is suck you into its crazy world. You truly forget it's a movie and are taken on a wild ride that unfolds over the period of one Friday night. It gives you that fuzzy buzzy feeling you get when you stay awake all night long after the last day of the work week. The sensation adds to the quirky viewing experience.Although it's rated R, "Neighbors" would achieve nothing above a PG-13 if released today. There's quite a bit of profanity and adult content. However, no nudity is found. It's tame by today's rating standards. "Neighbors" is a welcome addition to any film enthusiast's library of 1980's comedy classics. It captures a unique moment in the careers of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.
jlobarcelona-335-549779 One of the last humor noir masterpiece, third to fourth degree excellence, Belushi-Aykroyd duet (last movie appearance), is stealing the show all these cartoons like characters are excellent. the final version of Neighbors was released to cinemas in December 1981, three month before Belushi's death, at the time critics was so upset that they didn't get the point of what was soon to be an UFO. Most of them were expecting a kind of blues brothers alchemy remake, though Advilsen took a counterpart using Belushi in a "counter employ" role showing how great his talent was. At the time some of the ads called Neighbors "a comic nightmare;" or "a sour case of creative indigestion." A visionary Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times that "Neighbors is a truly interesting comedy, an offbeat experiment in hallucinatory black humor. It grows on you...Belushi and Aykroyd are brilliant casting, especially since they divided the roles somewhat against our expectations.".Unfortunately during filming this movie Belushi relapsed into drug addiction leaving us UN chef d'oeuvre d'humor!!!!! a big 10/10
