PodBill Just what I expected
Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Catangro After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Loui Blair It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Piecean Glory The treatment of women empowerment in the Indian celluloid is an age old practice. From Nargis in Mother India, through Dimple in Zakhmi Aurat, Zeenat in Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Susmita Sen in Samay, Madhuri in Anjam, Raveena in Daman...they all proved one thing- it takes more than muscle to emphasize power. Under the recent light of the movie, Mardani that literally means "manlike" or more philosophically "like a man", once again we see a woman challenging the age old concept of feminine docility. One who dares to challenge a man in a man's world. Rani Mukherjee sets some "dabang"of her own as she adapts a man like stature, WITHOUT losing her feminine oomph. I am so glad, I didn't see any bolywood gimmicks like- rushing the streets in a "dhoom" like haze or cross the rail tracks like in "kick". But most importantly I am blessed there are no "bharat Ki Nari" dialogs. The things I liked about the movie - compact story line, crisp dialogs, down to earth sequences and NO SONGS. Even when she is in an emotional turmoil, the protagonist handle the situation "like a man"...with no quiver in her voice...while a roll of tear drops down her white marble cheeks. Rani looks like a million bucks and performs like a duchess....Yes, when war becomes personal all bets are off. And when vultures are eying your kids and home...you need to have courage to gut them. My heart sank at the atrocity and menace of the flesh trade. How a simple act of enjoying eating a panipuri can drag you into the kingdom of darkness...yes like the protagonist and the makers of the movie "Mardani" I am scared and scarred for the rest of my life...into the nightmares of flesh trade and human trafficking.
Prahlad Agarwal Khoob ladi mardaani woh to Jhansi wali RANI thi! That sums up the plot of Pradeep Sarkar's latest release, where Rani Mukherjee plays a tough cop and unravels a high-profile organised human trafficking racket. The movie is an absolute disappointment, with Rani's acting being the only saving grace. The director's idea to create a macho lady cop image falls flat added by a boring story-line. The movie does not have any good punch lines (except few ludicrous dialogues like Yeh India hai Madam, Tu under 19 ka 12th player hai, etc), action sequence (except few slapping and IPC Act recitals), art direction (display of semi- nude children fails to create an intended disturbing image), suspense/ thriller trail (only the last 5 minutes of movie explains the so- called master planning by Rani to turn herself into a one woman squad and obliterate the entire racket, arresting the kingpin all by herself!). An exception would be the middleman (a rich car showroom owner) who throws in some good acting along with Rani, and absence of any inappropriate song/ dance sequences, which makes the movie bearable.A lot was expected from Pradeep Sarkar and his crew if we go by the trailers and post-production, however Mardaani failed to deliver a wholesome woman-centric entertainment unlike this year's successful movies with woman protagonist like Queen, Highway, Revolver Rani, etc.
dhananjayphadtale MARDAANI is such a "Superbly Balanced" movie...Rani gave SPLENDID PERFORMANCE with controlled yet fully flowing emotions from intelligence, command, care, humor, character with track record getting hit back and tested on different levels from bribe to familial demolition, always on the edge of life and death, and then nailing down the sharp criminals with guts, calculated risks, and played every card....RANI ROCKS...AND....not only her character, but every character from villains to all cops, every small and major character, had its STRONG SIGNIFICANCE in the movie and didn't revolve only around Rani....making it like Lagaan where Bhuvan was not superhero....!! MARDAANI team handled such a SENSITIVE SUBJECT CLOSE TO EVERY GIRL AND GOOD HUMAN BEINGS WITH DIGNITY AND GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, nowhere the grip of the movie was lost, serious things reached with their depth, strong humor sense with sharp conversations across Walt and Shivani, Wakil, Katiyaal, Rehman, Pyari, Mattu, Jaafar, Kapil....Rani's cop was THE MOST ZINDADIL POLICE OFFICER in Indian cinemas...so genuine with her duty, caring her colleagues, cracking SUPERB JOKES even in tensest of the situations, and so sharp minded, chase that keeps you on the edge of the seat with equally intelligent and ruthless young villain Walt...Great fight between real cops and real villains...So, admired with affection by Police Departments all over the country, NGOs, and chief ministers of various states for handling such a sensitive subject so nobly....Hats off Rani...Hats off Team MARDAANI...!! It was not just biopic of 1 person's life, but was a legendary portrait of a sensitive subject of our India VERY REALISTIC yet entertaining and gritty...no unnecessarily indulging love stories or songs...keeping it straight...real...AWESOME..!! Rani at her best...firing full throttle....!! PROUD OF YOU RANI...!! WELL DONE TEAM MARDAANI...!!
shivamt25 Rani Mukharji is a tremendous actress, no doubt about that after seeing black. This movie is something she hasn't done yet, but it doesn't seem like this is going to stop her. She has done a great job once again, walking straight, talking foul wearing shirt and pant, we kind of get a feeling of lady Dabangg or Singham you can say. Although it do seem a little bit cliché, but people in India will surely find it new. Supporting cast is OK but Rani steals the show, the villain do have a great pace in his tone when he speaks which give him a dark look. Mardaani is an inspiring movie which tells that women are stronger now than they ever were, so stop messing with them or they will kill you ! It presents a bitter truth that child trafficking is a major problem in the country which has to be eradicated. So if you want to watch an action drama which presents the current problems of society effectively, this can be a good option.
