Mjeteconer Just perfect...
Steineded How sad is this?
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
info-6107 "The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns" Just look at the title and ask your self: "What is this?" Well, I'm now going to answer that. First I would start with the story. A "lepr...something" is in love with a fairy princess (sounds sweet). But they can't have each other (usual stuff) bla bla. Then Mickey kills a fairy. They're having a fight. The fairy kills one of the "lepr...whatever's" friend and then kills the fairy. Now the fairies wants revenge and goes to war against the "lepre...dudes". And then a war starts. Then some people has to save the world, as the nature goes amok, because the fairies are controlling the nature. So they have to stop the war, bla bla bla. So on, so on. Now with top stars: Whoopi Goldberg and (Randy Quaid) this movie sounds good. NOOTT!! As usual there are the special effects, which are of course bad, since it's a TV production. And so is the speed of the movie. And there is no Irish feeling in the people. None of them with the good, old Irish accent. Maybe that's because most the cast includes mostly British or American actors. So don't have high expectations on this movie, cause it (shall I use the word) sucks!!
Islandia This TV film suffers from being too long, and from playing quite heavily on certain stereotypes of the Irish. Leaving out the 'happy Irish leprechauns doing the Riverdance' scenes would have improved things immensely. The special effects are pretty good for a TV film, and the actors are mostly good in their roles, especially Colm Meaney as Seamus Muldoon. It's unfortunate that Irish legends are so twisted in the story, especially where the Banshee has been turned into some kind of benevolent spirit, played by a very bored-looking Whoopi Goldberg.
Andrew Nixon A nice story of Leprechauns and Fairies. It stars Randy Quaid in probably his most subtle role to date, which is fitting and appreciated. Colm Meaney is excellent as the leprechaun, Seamus Muldoon. This movie falls a little short of being a classic in the fantasy genre, but it's a decent enough tale for the St. Patrick's Day season. It was made for television, so it lacks a little of the bigger production but the costumes are good and the special effects aren't bad. Probably the biggest fault of this movie is it's running time at nearly 3 hours. It has a fair bit of romance thrown in along with the battles in the forest, Irish song & dance, and other bits of merriment. I think the wee ones might be more patient with this epic length movie, while older folks may grow a bit weary waiting for it to play out.**1/2 (Out of 4)
anchorage74 I think that this was a great movie. My daughter (4) and I have rented it several times. It makes you want to be a kid again and to believe that there really is a magical world that exists. That this world exists in the here and now.
