Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Ava-Grace Willis Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
paulclaassen There's a reason why I don't like American comedies: they're American! They're cheesy and predictable. The chemistry between Dempsey and Monaghan made it worth the watch. As the film progressed, though, it got more and more unreasonable and rather silly. The filmmakers expected the audience to prefer Tom (Dempsey) and Hannah (Monaghan) to get together, but why should I? Why would I prefer her to marry casanova Tom? He's been her best friend for 10 years with no interest whatsoever of getting involved with her. Why should I root for him now? Especially now that she's found the perfect man in Colin (McKidd). He has the looks, the charm, the title, the money and the donkey kong dick - why shouldn't I prefer him over Tom. No reason is given why he is not good enough for her. He is faithful, loving and caring. The ending was so utterly stupid and predictably American. Tom's final speech was...well, yawn! You honestly expect me to fall for this ending???
Prismark10 There is nothing original, funny or even really much romantic about Made of Honour. It works mainly because of the actors who do the best of the film's thin premise and derivative material. At least they make the movie watchable.Tom (Patrick Dempsey) and Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) have been best friends for years, a platonic relationship for womanizer Tom.When Hannah returns from a business trip in Scotland engaged to Colin (Kevin McKidd) Tom had already resolved that Hannah is the woman for him and planned to propose marriage.Instead he now has been asked to play the 'maid' of honour for her forthcoming wedding in Scotland. Tom agrees reluctantly, even though people think he is gay in acting as the maid. He sizes up Colin but he proves to be a perfect gentleman and sport, adept at basketball, an expert shot and he can toss the caber.Still with the help from some acidic advice from his much married father (Sydney Pollack) Tom is determined to prove his love for Hannah.
SnoopyStyle Tom (Patrick Dempsey) and Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) are college friends. He's a womanizer with lots of rules, and she's willing to call him out for it. Ten years later, she's still the only one he can take to yet another one of his father's (Sydney Pollack) wedding no matter how many girls he's dated. He discovers his love for Hannah a little too late. This is the standard paint by numbers rom-com. The problem is that neither are exceptional rom-com leads. Neither are physical comedians. Neither have shown a strong background in this genre. Patrick Dempsey takes some pratfalls, but it doesn't work for him. The only thing that truly works is an angry bridesmaid Busy Philipps. So an outstanding script is needed to elevate this. But there isn't one coming. There are a few funny moments. The glow in the dark beads are funny. The biggest problem is that Hannah's Colin isn't douchy enough. It would work if he made all kinds of threats against Tom behind Hannah's back. They don't make him bad enough. The emotional structure isn't set up properly.
pc95 A truly awful film, "Made Of Honor" should've been in contention for Razzi awards. It is so awfully made by the numbers for the masses that you'll be hard-pressed not to turn it off fairly quickly. We stuck it out through truly sad attempts at comedy and some of the worst screen-writing dull as ever. (spoilers) The story starts out relevant, but throws the whole thing out about 15 min into the run-time. It loses any weight after that, and you've got inane gossipy dialog milked for as much honey as possible, and terrible group-hug basketball pick-up games with supposed guy-talk. You can guess the outcome and story right after the 15 min prologue, and that sets off 4-alarm trash-heap sirens. Skip this complete turkey. If you're looking for a better movie of the same genre catch "The Proposal".
