Maidgethma Wonderfully offbeat film!
AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Reno Rangan This was the Hallmark's production, a television movie series called Love saga. This is the first one in the 11 episodes, a long movie series. The first 8 are based on the books by Janette Oke and remaining 3 are not. Each chapter in the each film that briefs different stages of lives in the different timeline and characters. Its the dramatised romance stories in the times of the cowboy culture in the United States, but in the realistic approach. So in the next few days and/or weeks, my reviews are going to be sequels and prequels to this one.I haven't done this like since five years, after the 'Ernest' movies. I watched them one after another for weeks, that was a quite an experience apart from my likes and dislikes parts from that series. Watching all together in a short period of gap is better and gives an opportunity to follow the series easily than watching them one per year on the television. It is going to be a simple and short review, that's what I'm thinking to give. Okay then lets jump into the 'ocean of love' for a long swim.As I said the first film in the eleven. Kicks off quite quickly with a tragic in the beginning. All about the present narrative, it does not let you know any past events except the characters talks about it in required parts which somehow allows the viewers to get it. I bet in the follow-ups we are going to know more about those, so I did not bother about the character developments in this pilot episode. Engaging story, but very-very simple and too short. A perfect television movie with some great acts and with the well blended background scores."You know... Sometimes love isn't fireworks. Sometimes love just comes softly."The story is set in the middle of the 1800s. A young woman begins to narrate her story in the background. A journey of her life in a wagon wheel with her husband. All they have dreamt together is about to happen, but unexpectedly it all shatters like a tree struck by a lightning. Leaves misery behind to carry with clueless about what's coming up. It is about the time to face the Nature's challenge, so the decision must be made quickly to avoid the threat. All these happen within the first ten minutes, the actual story constructive unfolds in the following hour. That lets you know the meaning of the title.Having Katherine Heigl on-board was the advantage for the movie to grab the attention of the television audience. In fact, it was one of her earlier movies in the career before she was getting very famous. I was interesting only after seeing her name in the cast. But everyone performed well in their roles. The whole story was told in the span of one rotation of the yearly season. As the seasons change how the characters as well refines and finds the life's pleasure from the new beginning. There might be no large cast, but within its well managed to tell a beautiful tale that covers theme like faith, hope, dream and love. This kind of story suits for the reading, and might look short for a movie, but surprisingly a better movie than I anticipated. There's no second thought, it was a fine adaptation. I enjoyed it and I can't wait for the rest of the installments.8/10
belangelc I respect and admire Dale Midkiff very much. I have seen a lot of his movies but this one really moved me. He was so kind, patient and played his charicter so well. I especially loved this movie because it was a family movie you didn't have to be afraid to watch for the bad language. He is a great actor and highly under rated. I would love to see his movies begin to take a turn for the better and prayer that he will get the recognition he deserves. I think if he start getting some roles in better movies this will happen for him. Besides his incredible good looks can't hurt, as a matter of fact I'm surprised he isn't at the top already due to his looks and magnetic personality!
ashulllevy Unlike many of you, I had never read - or even heard of - Ms. Oke's series of books before seeing this film, despite having been a huge fan of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books (and the show) as a kid. I just happened upon the beginning of the movie as I was surfing channels last week, and I was hooked. I normally like edgier fare (such as "The Daily Show"), but this is such a nostalgic treat! I actually went out and found a copy of the book "Love Comes Softly" (it was in the young adults' section of the second-hand book store) and read it. To tell you the truth, I like the changes that Michael Landon, Jr. chose to make in the screenplay. I prefer Missy as a pre-teen and Marty as an opinionated, well-read young woman who has to come around to Clark's point of view on faith. In the book, she is a bit too much of an empty vessel for his teachings. All of the performances in this film are honest and affecting, if not pitch-perfect. Katharine Heigl uses some of her dramatic opportunities to soaring effect, particularly in her portayals of grief. But Midkiff - wow! He is heartbreakingly perfect in his portrayal of a character that might have come across as preachy and overbearing. It falls to him to hold the audience's hand and deliver the film's broad message of religious faith; but he doesn't grip too tightly, and his quiet manliness and humor are so compelling that...well, is any one else half in love with him? My only complaint is that, in an attempt to make a completely family-friendly film, Mr. Landon has gauzed over some of the physical hardships and intimacies inherent in the plot. This kind of cheats the audience out of some powerful emotional moments that help propel the characters' relationships. I like the fact that the film is wholesome; but it is possible to be clean without being sanitized.
amberkaye81 I didn't really think this series was going to be my type of movie, though I have always liked a good romance. It definitely reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. I'm sure we all know why that is. When I watched this movie the first time, I cried throughout. It is absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend watching the entire series, especially watching them in the proper order. If you can't find a place to rent them, they would be well worth the purchase! I'm just trying to save up money so I can buy them for myself. I wish Little House on the Prairie would come out on DVD as well so I could add it to my collection. Unless it's come out and I just haven't found it yet?
